Education (school) shouldn't be seen as a must, it should be seen as an option (Necessary bit not compulsory).
They said education is the only solution to poverty. Na lie!!!, there are many ways to end poverty.

Phizzlephizz:
this picture just said everything. I can remember vividly in my primary school days how my class teacher would rain abuses on Bolaji my classmate who always come last in position, and tell us how poor and wretched people like him would end up, and how Franklin was always the talk of the school cuz of his brilliance I really don't know much of there whereabouts now tho but for secondary school the worst student in my class was my bossom friend, Akeem no know book no be lie I made fond of him in his absence and we find it all funny reading his exam scripts as it is filled with jargon, Akeem didn't further his education into tertiary institution he went to his homeland (ogun state) in 2010 just as I left for school. We had a secondary school get together for my set last year Dec. 2014 and the only person that turned up with a car was the olodo Akeem as we usually call him, we were amazed most drinks were on him after the party as usual na as a bosom friend I had d front sit on our way home we got talking and Akeem said he's into Agriculture back home(ogun) and has 1 hectare of land where he planted plantain and he also does fish farming, he also said he's building his own house that was when I got struck in total awe, and am still here struggling for a 2.1 without assurance of a well paying Job after graduation.

Foolishness 101! You are meant to be acquiring an education, what kind of nonsense is this? You are better off dropping out of school and joining Akeem as a labourer, mtchew!!!

I have a lecturer who Always tell me and my departmental mates of his success as a student, how he had a 5 dot gp for three Semesters consecutively and how he wrote the exams of his 4.5 gp the worst ever he had in school on a sick bed. But I wonder why the only Job left for him is the one the school offered him 'lecturing' . One day after his usual blabbing I asked of what other achievement he has and he was silent. The best in class is the best only in class. There are other principles attached to success. Than studying the works Newton and the likes did so many years ago

Destiny are not the same... Maybe that's his own path. And he quickly realize it and make use of it .. What you will eat with never pass you by.. If you decided joining him in that agricultural business, believe me, you might later realize is a waste of time ... Don't always make experience your best teacher, you need to plan and follow it path.. Do what you know how to do best.

Prof. Abletor Sedofia from University of Ghana. "Academic excellence is overrated! Did I just say that? Oh, yes, I said it.Being top of your class does not necessarily guarantee that you will be at the top of life. You could graduate as the best student in Finance but it doesn't mean you will make more money than everybody else. The best graduating Law student does not necessarily become the best lawyer. The fact is life requires more than the ability to understand a concept, memorise it and reproduce it in an exam. School rewards people for their memory. Life rewards people for their imagination. School rewards caution, life rewards daring. School hails those who live by the rules. Life exalts those who break the rules and set new ones. So do I mean people shouldn't study hard in school? Oh, no, you should. But don't sacrifice every other thing on the altar of First Class. Don't limit yourself to the classroom. Do something practical. Take a leadership position. Start a business and fail. That's a better Entrepreneurship 101.Join or start a club. Contest an election and lose. It will teach something Political Science 101 will not teach you. Attend a seminar. Read books outside the scope of your course. Go on missions and win a soul for eternal rewards... Do something you believe in! Think less of becoming an excellent student but think more of becoming an excellent person. Make the world your classroom!".

1st of all,i dont know how this made FP;is this meant to empower or disempower? Having said that; op your our line of thought's faulty! Just because he went into agriculture now and is making small change you think all is well for him now? You"re still in school, and who told you there wont be job when u graduate! I dont know the section that really interests you on nairaland, but i think you should redirect your focus on sections that will strenghthen and empower your resolve to get that 2"1,becuase if you do,and participate in the right sections here, you"ll know the sky's ur limit, and dont limit your dreams to Nigeria alone cos that academics gonna take you places and people you relate with also matters...
So ur friend's short term goal's paying off now;wait in the long run, when marriage, kids, etc start popping up and see who has a more secured life...dont be enticed by flimpsy chicken change;build a stronger and secured future...Bewise!

So Op I should drop out of school
Degree results are just theoretical effects of the way we reason. Bros! In the real world where money is made, they don't look at what you have but what you can do. Akeem the main character, showed that he knows practical agricultural extension and fishery than those who studied them as degree programmes. The issue is not for us to drop our education, but to be consciously active in other to be sub-consciously successful, in short, it means that when we really want to be successful in life, we need to be practically minded like being creative, innovative and explorative. Akeem was the 70% practical needed by graduates, what if he had acquired the 30% along?

easier said than done! Everybody has limited time, nobody has enough for continous trial and error, that is why one cant waste time and gambling away or time and resource...there's a difference btw risk and gambling..having said that, most of out of the box tin, sounds like gambling and really works for peps with nothing to lose;if you really av limited resource;you cant afford to live the way you prescribed!

We are all COnceptually Skilled...just that only few people realise nd utilise their skills...

That's to tell u that we have the wrong notion about education and schooling. Teachers and parents no dey try. parent always want their children to come first no matter the cost, whether these children get the needed skills or not. Teachers paint it like your life is doomed when u come last.

But the truth is, if u can't work with your hands and if u re not smarter than just books, nothing for u, whether u come first or last. That's why I like the movie, 3 idiots!

Op I wish I could like ur post more than once! U re spot on. I'll advise u acquire a skill, especially something u love doing. Jobs aint guaranteed in Nigeria, no matter which class u graduate with. A skill will help u during rough times and might become a medium through which God will bless you!
