Episode 3 - Kelvin and Oloye

The guy oloye was a pain in kelvin's a*ss , he was all over kelvin obtaining money from him by crook, and by threats.
Kelvin was helpless as oloye oppressed him times without number.
Their bully/victim relationship dated back to their secondary school days as they had both been classmates back in boarding school. Oloye had made kelvin's life miserable and had been the major contributing factor to his change of high school .
When Kelvin first recognized Oloye as his coursemate he was at first alarmed , then he comforted himself with the awareness that this was the University and that everyone in the university were matured and civil and minded there business, unknown to him, Oloye at 24 was still every inch of the street savvy bully, he hadn't for once outgrown his oppressive behavior,
And truly indeed at 19 ,Kelvin hadn't outgrown his Soft naïve mummy's Boy demeanor. Kelvin was what some people in society called an 'ajebo'.

Back in secondary school he had threatened Kelvin with his muscles and big body build, right now he centered his threat on a new concept and that was 'cultism' he claimed to be a supreme viking and capitalized on Kelvin's mortal phobia for Cultism to exploit Kelvin.

The first time the oppression manifested was one sunny afternoon when Kelvin had just withdrawn some money from The A.T.M after been in the queue for close to an hour, and Oloye just accosted him just a few meters away from the bank's premises.
"Kelvin how far na? I been dey hail you the other day but its like you no hear."

"I dey" replied kelvin.

"How e dey be now, you know say for this school , na we be the supreme vikings , na we hold this school stand , and if you no 'bag up' you dey on a long thing..."

"Please I am not interested in anything like that ..." Kelvin replied with a trembling voice.

"Then e go really hot for you for this school o, I just say make I tell you , as my old classmate. Anyways we go discuss another day , abeg you fit find me like 500 naira make I use go restaurant go chop..."

"I can only give you 200naira" replied Kelvin.

"Oya bring am"

"But no change , its 1000 naira denominations , I have here"

"Ok, no wam , bring am make I go buy something for there bring change for you"

Kelvin gave him the money , and off Oloye vanished with the money to the consternation of Kelvin.

And the next time Kelvin demanded his change from oloye , Oloye rained abuses and threats on Kelvin.
Kelvin was downcast ,his joy at gaining admission into our prestigious University soon turned into sadness as Oloye continued to use the same pattern to obtain money and other valuables from poor Kelvin.

This greatly affected kelvin's studies and he lost weight as a result of the depression he felt.

We were Chilling outside the veranda of our friend's crib one sunny weekend after power had been interrupted , we were cracking vulgar jokes amongst us, when our friend vincent's sister came visiting. On sighting her We started playfully singing 'wizkid's' 'caro' "looking for caro! Yekpa! Where is caro!..." . Vincent's sister's name was caro and it was a routine Joke we used in teasing her whenever she was around.

After the warm exchange of pleasantries Caroline settled down with us , and the jokes changed dimension as we didn't want to sound offensive to the lady in our midst who was the apple of our host's eyes.
Caroline was very tall for a girl, fair and beautiful, she was of normal female body build.

She seemed to be expecting a guest at her brother's house , and was on the phone most of the time , trying to give the guest the directions to her brother's place.

"Your new boyfriend?"
Vincent teased.
"How do you know its a boy"
His sister replied feigning surprise irritation.

"I guessed" .Vincent simply said.

She smiled "I've fallen for this guy who's my coursemate , he's so handsome and intelligent, but I got one problem he's too soft , and that's where you come in, I want him to meet you and toughen up..."

That instant we saw a guy coming towards us with unsure steps, he was small in physique about 5ft4 or so.
"There he comes" Caro said.

He was very handsome, with an innocent face that made you like him instantly.

He waved at us in greetings "hello everyone".

We looked at him like an alien from another planet.
Truth is , we couldn't remember the last time or if they'd been anytime we'd been greeted that way by a Guy.

The guy looked dappa, wearing a prominent nike canvass , a black fitting polo top and a varsace dirty Jean. His disposition was naïve, but not his dress sense.

Caroline offered him a seat on one of the plastic empty chairs in front of the house, she introduced all of us to him and introduced him to us , and thus we met Kelvin.

Vincent offered kelvin a handshake , and asked him to do the same to the rest of us. When Kelvin had finished doing so.
Vincent said to him.
"Na so we dey do for here, no be that your 'hello everyone' wey you do, like say we dey 'jand' " everyone else laughed while Kelvin smiled and relaxed.

Vincent offered him a shot glass of 501 gin, he sipped a little and wore an acute grimace for almost a minute.
He was obviously a first timer.

We randomly engaged him in an informal interviews but the questions asked were on a general note, after which we continued in our discussion asking his opinion at one time or the other and making him feel welcome. Caroline was happy with the way things were going.

Time flew and it was soon nightfall, Kelvin said he wanted to start going back home, so we bade him farewell, he appeared very happy.
He later confided in caroline that the few moments he spent with us made him feel relaxed and exude a level of confidence he'd never imagined he could exude among his peers.

Kelvin started coming around us more often and was especially close to preye. He had officially started dating caroline . One day preye was high on weed and was on one of his talking sprees when he let us know a startling secret. And it was that Kelvin confided in him that he had become a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.

To be continued tomorrow.

Bravo boss. Em vikings things ok .
Pls let me place an advise that will help improve your followers understanding of your article.

USE
Kevin: good evening all (instead of Good evening all kevin said)

Did I invite you here? bode asked

What I'm trying to nail on is that you should try make us understand each sentence of each characters.

Also
Are you telling a true story that you were present in the seen or you are tell a story that you were not present? Because you have been discussing like you were present in the seen but you have not introduce your self up till na.
So it will be nice if you remove *we* were so as to make it more mature .

Don't know if I'm making sense

thanks a lot. Regarding the use of 'we' it is deliberate and it functions to hide my identity under the 'we' cloak. The episodes are structured in such a way that I'll tell my own story without you even knowing it. I could be 'bode' , I could be 'Julius' I could be 'Preye' , Vincent , Ovie or even Remi. But you my dear readers won't be able to pinpoint exactly, such is the mystery I'd like to uphold. Meanwhile thanks for the suggestions , I'll see to it.

Re: Random Campus True Life Stories . by Mrshroud: 9:47am On May 31, 2015
Episode 3 continued.

The revelation was not surprising to some of us who knew that Vincent was a top ranking member of the fraternity.
What did you expect ? He'd started dating Caroline and It could be deduced that this was what Caroline wanted. wasn't it? what she meant when she told her brother she'd like him to 'toughen him up'.

Vincent 26, a tall and muscular dark ruggedly handsome dude was a 400level Student of civil engineering , and he'd been owned by the Vikings since day 1 on campus.
His Father was a 'Norseman' an 'XYZ emeritus' a term used to refer to older more established members of the Fraternity who now served as patrons.
The Supreme Vikings Movement transcended the school walls and extended into the top echelon of society; From the civil service, to multinational firms,to the world of academics and to political administration, as their members are quick to say 'There are 'kings' everywhere'.

The well established 'Norsemen' in society perhaps served as a source of support to the upcoming or new graduates who had just been inducted as 'Norsemen' , aiding them in having a good financial footing in society . They were patrons , and that was the category where Chief Vincent Napoleon-Vincent's Father fell in.

As soon as vincent gained admission , he was 'marked' to belong. And as soon as Kelvin was 'marked' to start dating Caroline, those of us in the Know ,knew instantly that it was very likely that Kelvin would eventually become a viking. but what some of us didn't know was that it was going to be so fast.

Usually when the Vikings Saw potentials in an individual and wanted him to 'belong', they studied him for sometimes to observe his itenary , his mode of social association and his level of academic seriousness. After studying these factors , they familiarized with the individual using their most charismatic of means.
After been familiarized , the wooing process began.
The time span of the wooing process could be long or short depending on the individual and how much he Needed to be convinced beyond doubt that he was taking the right step.
However if the individual turned down the invitation and was insistent on remaining a 'civilian' or if the individual was tipped to have intentions of belonging to another fraternity, he was left alone.
There was only forceful initiation when the individual had committed a serious offense such as 'impersonation of the vikings.
Perhaps Kelvin would have choose not to be become a Viking if he didn't have Oloye to deal with.
After his initiation he was dumbfounded and increasingly indignant to have realized that Oloye wasn't even a Viking nor a member of any fraternity after all. Oloye was a 'civilian', a 'Jew'.
Kelvin was pained to the core, but the vikings had a clause for its new members which forbade them from taking action with regards to old wrongs committed against them ;so every new member was to start on a new slate.

After Kelvin became a member of the confraternity, he prayed fervently for Oloye to Get on his nerves again and very soon too, but it seemed like Oloye had other things in mind than bullying Kelvin.
For a week Oloye carried on like he'd never known Kelvin , which was quite unusual.
Kelvin was dying to know the reason for Oloye's indifferent attitude. Had he become aware of his new status on campus? Kelvin wondered.
He decided to carry out a personal investigation to identify the reason oloye didn't want to 'play ball'.
What Kelvin Found out didn't put put much hope on ground for any chance of confrontation between he and Oloye, as he found out that Oloye had Fallen in Love with a very devoted Christain Girl named 'Pearl' and she was the major reason for the Guy's Change in attitude.
Oloye now frequented church with the same level of zeal with which he previously frequented Gamble houses and Brothels, and he seemed to have changed from his oppressive ways as well. THAT'S WHAT LOVE COULD DO.

Kelvin was not happy about his discovery, Oloye had caused him a lot of pains and depression in the past and in his perspective , Oloye was indeed largely responsible for his acceptance to the invitation of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity and now Oloye wasn't just gonna chicken out like that.
Kelvin therefore decided to Play the devil and tempt Oloye.

One day he(kelvin) approached Oloye after lectures pretending to still be the naïve, trembling Kelvin, he told Oloye that he would pay him 20thousand naira if he would help him become a Member of the Vikings Confraternity.

But for the figures involved, Oloye probably would have easily dismissed kelvin telling him he knew nothing about the Vikings and perhaps also telling him that he didn't have to fear him(oloye) anymore because he wasn't in the business of bullying people anymore.

But the price Tag seemed to resurrect old habits from wherever they'd been. He paused to think of the proposal, and that was his undoing.

He helplessly found himself thinking of all he could do with a free 20 thousand naira.
He Could fool this slowpoke of a boy named 'Kelvin' for the one last time and ask God for forgiveness, he thought to himself; Then he'd pay his tithe and redeem his 1,500 naira church-building-related pledge from the 20thousand naira, then buy his lovely girlfriend Pearl a new pair of shoes and he was good to go.
Oloye decided to play along.
Now THAT WAS WHAT MONEY COULD DO.
"You say you want to join us? " He asked Kelvin in a hushed tone.

"Yes, I really want to belong, I am tired of been oppressed, I want to belong so that I can have say wherever my peers are talking , and achieve a level of confidence too " Kelvin replied worriedly, maintaining his trembling voice.

"There's no problems, now where's the Money?"

"How am I sure , you will get me in when I give you the money?"
Kelvin asked.

"Don't worry about that , I will get you in ..."
Oloye's predictable Calculation was that he would obtain the money from Kelvin and deny him afterwards, and the matter wouldn't get past the two of them. After all if the Matter got to any authorized third party, what would Kelvin say he was paying him the money for? He smiled to himself , he was safe, he thought.
But Kelvin had other plans and oloye wasn't smart enough to read between the lines.
Somehow Kelvin managed to lure Oloye to his apartment based on the pretext of receiving the money. Meanwhile in Kelvin's apartment a number of notorious Members Of the Vikings confraternity were assembled inside and outside waiting for the 'Fool' who had been impersonating them, as impersonation of- any kind-of the Vikings confraternity was a very dangerous offense which could have very severe consequences on the offender.

Oloye arrived the house and met with Kelvin , he wanted a fast business so he could leave immediately, Kelvin pretended to want reassurance to which Oloye shouted "Just Get me the money I said I will make you a Viking , I am the number 1 viking in this school and..."

"How come we don't know you" a rough voice thundered from the kitchen, 3 guys came out from Kelvin's kitchen looking stern, the man in front was wielding a pistol.
They were all strange faces, and they were not smiling. They formed a ring around a trembling oloye .
In his wildest imagination Oloye never thought that the 'Little' Kelvin he had once bullied was capable of setting him up like this. But this was more than a set up. It was a life changing course.
Oloye had just walked into a den of angry scorpions and was thus destined to be stung, and those who described the vikings as scorpions knew that they stung fatally.
The men meant business and moments later , The door was shut by another hefty mean looking guy who had assumed the position of the door man.

"You say you are a viking. when?, where? , how?"
The same guy asked again, with the Gun pointed directly at Oloye's Face.

It was Oloye's Turn to tremble and it was fun for Kelvin to watch the powerful and supposedly fearless Oloye Tremble so much.
Oloye replied with a shaky voice, "I never said so, I've never been a viking and I never told anyone that I was.".
Kelvin came forward and punched him real hard and as kelvin was wearing a ring the punch fatally wounded Oloye and he was bleeding from his eye area. Kelvin landed another punch on his stomach, oloye doubled over and fell to the floor amidst intense groans and pains.
"At least don't lie, own up, you're going to be owning up to a lot of things today " Kelvin said.
And thus oloye was imprisoned and manhandled by the men from around 8pm when he came till night fall.

The day was an initiation night and after oloye had been fatally subjected to the assault back at Kelvin's apartment , he was subsequently escorted to the initiation Ground to be fully initiated into the Vikings Confraternity as the ultimate 'treatment of his fvck up' .
Oloye begged and Begged and cried for mercy. He didn't want to be initiated into the Vikings or indeed any other Cult, he was the only son of his mother he begged, he didn't have the heart for such , he cried. But vikings knew no mercy, except perhaps the 'mercy' someone bore as a name.
Oloye was the one with the mortal phobia for cultism after all.

By the end of the full moon , oloye's initiation had been concluded. He'd lost his phone, his Shoes , his money and most of all his former 'civilian' status. But that was normal Vikings Tradition.

However what was perhaps the most painful aspect of everything to Oloye was that Kelvin had officially assumed the role of 'Godfather' and 'Senior on Board(S.O.B)' to Oloye, and this meant that He(Oloye) had to be surbodinate to Kelvin according to the Vikings military-like Hierarchical Structure.

Under the sphere of this new role kelvin was to serve as his guiding Superior, oloye was to receive orders directly from him. and Kelvin was to coach him on the 'Drills' of the Confraternity .
Kelvin was Oloye's 'S.O.B' for Life.

Few weeks after his initiation, Oloye had just withdrawn some money from the ATM, and was few meters away from the back when he sighted Kelvin and His Girlfriend Caroline. He attempted to Dodge but Kelvin looked in his directions which rendered his attempt at dodging futile. He had to Greet His Senior traditionally.
Oloye 'anchored' Kelvin .
"Rugged brother how e dey be now, me and caro we wan enter 'capital' now go process some documents , all I need from you na just 500naira..."

Oloye was Used to this. Fortunately for him , the ATM paid him in 500naira denominations, which meant that he would Not have to part with 1000naira instead of the 500naira asked. He quickly handed Kelvin a 500naira note from his wallet, Kelvin expressed his gratitude and they parted ways warmly.

"You don't need that money, do you?"
Caroline asked , a mischievous smile playing across her lips.

"Of cause I don't " Kelvin Replied smiling back at her.
"but I enjoy the feeling." They both laughed Heartily.

The End Of Episode 3. Other episodes coming soon.

Comic Relief

Our landlady was tired of her 5year old son Rafael's excessive playing habit.
The boy was increasingly exhibiting signs of someone who would eventually become a never do well.
In the last term, he came 34th out of 35 pupils, the 35th child was an invalid. And Rafael always failed to do his assignments.

One sunny day after the boy - Rafael had returned from school, as was his routine he was running about the neighborhood with his friends who were birds of a feather, fighting and scrubbing, wrestling and playing in the sand. A sight of Rafael playing in the neighborhood was always irritating to behold, even as he wore a perpetually running nose.

His mother having watched him in utter irritation for sometime had called him , and yelled at him.
"Rafael, shebi I born you finish you say na rascal you wan turn to abi?? Shebi dem swear for you say make you carry playplay take spoil your life?? , now oya enter house go sleep or read ur books!"

She left her small store to her neice to look after, and escorted the little rascal personally to their small home which was not very far from the store. Then she locked him inside and left with the key.

Rafael , perhaps out of idleness decided to explore the geography of his house with the aim of looking for a means of escape. He thought he saw some potentials in the bathroom window , so he decided to become the 'Micheal Scoffield' in his home/prison break.

Few minutes into his attempted escape from the Bathroom window , Rafael was stuck. He made futile efforts to free himself but it didn't work. For close to 2 hours Rafael was struggling with the window proof, hung upside down on the other side of the building. Moments afterward he could hear his mother's voice nearby , she was engaged in a discussion with her friend which was perhaps the main delay to her unlocking the door.

Rafael was desperate , but he was also helpless.
"If this woman(his mother) catch me for here , na big F" he must have thought to himself.

The backyard where Rafael was to drop from if his break had worked out was also a short path leading to the public bathroom in the compound.
Soon Ignatius an ibo tenant was passing by to make use of the public bathroom , and was startled when he saw Rafael hanging from the window.
Rafael already had a reputation for himself in the neighborhood as a ruffian and this particular tenant was aware.

"which bad thing u don do this time wey u hang for here now, God don catch u" the tenant said.

Rafael knew his normal disrespectful stunts wouldn't help him here , he had to get on the Good side of this man, so the man would help him to get off this self-induced trap he'd set for himself , and the earlier he broke free from this trap the better for him. For he knew he was in big soup if his mother Saw him like this. So he wailed and cried , pleading passionately.
"Brother abeg help me! I no wan play again, I wan stay for inside house lock myself , pray for my parents , read my books, brother abeg help!"

The End!

Episode 4 coming soon.

Sir, I really appreciate the mention, I was about running off since those lesbians' tale was a turn off. I must appreciate your narrative style as it really brings the story closer. Keep improving in your own way.

I must ask your permission to make use of some of your cult related terms which I credit to you. I intend to write a novel on the menace of cult to the youths.

I will appreciate if you and others take a look at my story " Inordinate Pleasures", just click on my profile to get it. Its off this board for now.

Episode 4- Preye Stole

One Thursday evening Preye received a message on 'Whatsapp' from an unknown number . The picture on the Profile indicated it was a very pretty young female and the face was vaguely familiar to preye; Preye in the course of the chat got to discover that she was his faculty mate and they received same lectures on friday mornings.
Since friday mornings were very crowdy it wasn't likely for preye to have known her personally , and it was unlikely too that she must have known him in class, so on further probe- still in the course of the chat, preye got to realize she'd known him from the time he'd contested for Mr Faculty- An all male competition that was organized by the Faculty's social Arm every first semester- she further hinted that she was a fan.

" Oh , I guess I disappointed you by losing. Lol" preye told her.

"That isn't exactly right, though you lost , you won my admiration more, almost everybody agreed the Judges were Biased. You were supposed to be the winner."

She replied.

" Wow! You're so encouraging. So will you be in class tomorrow, can't wait to see you...". That was preye.

And thus Preye Met Nancy 200level sociology, she was 20, not only was she dark and beautiful, she was slim and extremely curvy she was 'sexy' personified. She was a rich kid. She drove a 'Kia' saloon car to school and was the leader of a clique of 4 friends who were in same department as her and who tagged along her wherever she went, making it difficult for most guys to approach her.

Preye Knew them as a group.
There wasn't any student in school Who didn't ? But he never really knew or recognized her in person as classes were always rowdy.

The class had just rounded off and preye called her , she directed him to meet her downstairs at the students garage, he met them at the garage.
They exchanged pleasantries after a warm formal introduction. The girls were warm and polite , contrary to how other students perceived them to be. They drove out in Nancy's car with nancy on the wheels. They had lunch together and preye ever the ladies man , had them laughing their jaws off to his Jokes and word play.
Preye had his eyes on Nancy all through. There were Amina and Suliyat (the cousins)both of them fairly plump and pretty, and then Benedicta was slim and the only fair one amongst them she was beautiful but her beauty wasn't so pronounced. but by all standards , Nancy was the 'Girl to die for', little wonder she was the leader amongst her friends.
They were all aristocrats and preye easily related with the aristocratic ones.

Later that day , Preye told his friends , Wike and Jerry that he'd fallen in love with Nancy. Issues concerning the opposite sex never came up without Preye talking about nancy.
Their friendship grew, on preye's birthday she got him an expensive sony digital tablet.

Wike , And Jerry and indeed whoever saw Nancy and Preye's closeness , how they flirted and pecked each other , often ended up urging preye to ask her out, but somehow and quite unusually too, preye always failed to summon up courage to ask her out.

Perhaps he was truly in love.
More than once Nancy had visited him alone and they'd been together in the same room and preye was so 'harmless' that the only thing they'd ever shared was a kiss.

Perhaps to let out too much of emotional steam Preye texted her one evening "I love you".
There was no reply.

The next day after lecture hours preye, wike and Jerry were headed home , they were supposed to board a bike but Wike said he wanted to buy a new BlackBerry headset from a phone accessories store owned by a Northerner.

The store was divided into an inner store and an outer store . It was from the inner store that the northerner attended to his customers .While the outer store contained a locked show glass of assorted mobile phones.
There was a burglary proof of thin iron poles in front of the inner store where an assortment of mobile phone headsets and desktop chargers were clustered haphazardly around.

These headsets and other minor phone accessories like desktop chargers which hung around the thin iron poles were vulnerable to theft especially When the outer area of the store was crowded by customers.
The northerner probably knew he was been stolen from , but he never bothered perhaps because he made more than enough profits to - more than- cover for petty incidences of theft. And indeed he made a lot of profit.

Wike had been given four pieces of headsets to try on his blackberry phone.
He settled for one , but the Northerner was too engaged with other customers to attend to wike's negotiation for a good price.
The guy attended to customers in an irregular and disorganized order, but he wasn't to be blamed . If he decided to attend to customers on first come , first serve Basis he'd be at a loss of profit because he'd for instance be engaged with the first customer who was wasting his time hassling for a small item with a fixed price while another customer who probably wanted to buy a Bigger item- a phone for instance- could be kept waiting and could eventually leave for another of the numerous stores around.

Wike didn't understand this, perhaps to punish the northerner for treating him insignificantly, he dropped three of the headsets back on the table and left with one that worked, he met Preye and Jerry , they asked if he'd purchased the headset , he winked at them and moved on while they followed him.

"That Bastard aboki wan carry me play, I collect the earphone I no pay"
He laughed mischievously.
Jerry equally laughed.
"Sharp guy!" Jerry Hailed him.

Preye mildly disapproved his friend's action.
"Na from playplay , dem take get player, you go dey laugh now, small time na thief you go turn to..."
To which wike replied.
"Na my fault ? I dey ask am how much, e no dey answer me, him no know say na my time e dey waste?"
They boarded a bike home .

Later by evening the same day , the three friends were strolling around town as was their routine, sometimes they met pretty girls whom they 'razzled'. Today they talked about a variety of things , ranging from their academics to Dramatic lecturers to girls and then 'Nancy'.
Preye told them he sent her an 'I love you text' which she hadn't replied to ;as if in response to this, a text from nancy came in . It read "hi dear, please I'd like you to meet me at cosmos restaurant. nancy" . They all read the text.

For some reasons which Wike and Jerry couldn't understand Preye replied "I'm presently in the capital, I'll see you when I come back".

"Why?" Jerry asked.

"I don't want to be too available for her, let her miss me sometimes, so she'll know my worth . Besides I sent her that text since almost 24hours ago and she purposely kept me on suspense, so make me sef suspend her small."
He declared arrogantly.

Jerry and Wike didn't think there was much sense in Preye's reason, they argued with him for sometime, however, soon they diverted their attention to other issues.
They moved on, soon they were close to an electronics and DVD store,

The store had an inner and outer chamber, the outer chamber was where the electronics were assembled while the inner chamber was for the DVD's and CD's, outside the store on a table were some old school amplifiers. The owner of the store was a short ,mean looking, very muscular and Craggy faced young man with a prominent nose who spoke with a guttural voice and had a very thick ibo accent. He had lazy eyes that were red and appeared mysterious and unfriendly too, he didn't smile and when he replied to questions like jerry's "how much you dey sell this your amplifiers for this table?" He gave a short and dismissive reply that was unwelcoming of negotiations. "9,500 last" he replied.

The man was however, strangely patient almost ominously patient with them , he followed preye around the store as preye scanned from shelve to shelve looking for the movie of his choice- sometimes taking a look at other movies along the line- and still the man managed to respond- however with an almost curt disposition- to jerry's intermittent questions on the prices of the attractive looking amplifiers and flat screen TV's assembled in the outer chamber and out side on the table.
Wike sat on a wooden bench in the outer chamber of the store ,chatting and listening to music on his headset simultaneously.

Their was a petite fair young girl of about 18 who looked sick, she was sitting on the bench with wike, she was probably his wife or his sister. Jerry sometimes directed his questions- regarding prices of the electronics- to her, she had a simple and friendly face and she attached more details when she explained the prices to Jerry. She spoke with a thick ibo accent too and she easily smiled. She was the opposite of her husband or brother.
******************************************

Nancy was disappointed. she'd really needed to see Preye, she'd missed him. She was surprised that after she replied his "I love you " text message that night with an equal "I love you too, goodnight sweet dreams" text message - which apparently was undelivered: unknown to her- He(Preye) had not called or texted and now he'd abruptly traveled to the capital without as much as informing her. She became moody and to cheer up she decided to call at benedicta's place, she dialed Amina's number , Amina and suliyat stayed together , she directed them to meet her at benedicta's place.
She hurriedly finished her meatpie and drinks at the restaurant and boarded a bike to Benedicta's place, she'd left her car at the capital on her last visit because it was faulty.

Once the girls met at benedicta's place they decided to go out and buy some movies to entertain themselves, they embarked on a stroll to get the movie

Preye had spent so much time seemingly searching for the So called movie and Wike and Jerry were becoming impatient .
"Guy do quick na make we dey commot here " Jerry complained.
Preye finally decided to leave since he didn't see the Movie he was looking for.
"Make we dey go , I no see the film" he announced .
Wike and Jerry made to leave with him, the store owner watched them almost leave before he called out to Preye.
"Guy " he said calmly, observing preye.
"You say you no see the film?"

"I no see am"
Preye replied impatiently, with a voice that brittled.

"What of the one inside your bag"
The man asked.

"Wet.. Wetin , which one?" Preye stuttered , his voice clearly showed signs of nervousness and his facial muscles twitched intermittently into an unintended smile that went on and off like a shaky current.

Wike and Jerry on their part were lost as to what this strange-looking store owner was driving at. Preye didn't steal.

The man walked up to preye with the strides of someone who knew what he was talking about. His hands went straight to preye's small one-hand bag which he hung around his shoulders , Preye knew by now that the Game was up, he resisted the man calmly and then brought out the single DVD plate from his bag.
It was a rude shock to Wike and Jerry. they stared back and forth with quizzical eyes, from Preye to The Man.

Preye's hand was suspended mid air as he handed the CD to the Man, the man just stared at him spotting a fixed expression. Preye still had the shameful looking shaky-current-like smile on his face, he bent his face low.

Wike and Jerry proceeded to beg.
"Oga abeg , no vex , sorry I take God name take beg you..."
Wike pleaded desperately, he was soon joined by Jerry in the Pleading spree.

Preye was a standing corpse of shame. he'd never done it before, he never in his wildest imagination thought he would do it . He was just feeling unnecessarily adventurous , he wanted to feel what wike felt when he stole the headset, perhaps he wanted to prove that he too could be a 'sharp guy' if he wanted to, or too many things were just destined to go wrong that day, From the text message to nancy telling her he wasn't in town , to the theft, everything was like multiple tapping of wrong buttons.

"So as you dress fine like this, like person wey pesin go respect, then you say na thief you wan be, then you look me finish from beginning to end , you say na me you wan steal from? "

The man asked, sounding calm but subduing surging temper.

Jerry and Wike were steal pleading. The man hushed them with a wave of the hand.
"I dey ask you" he directed his gaze to preye.

A drop of preye's tears hit the floor.

"How much be DVD plate?" He asked preye.
"Answer my questions or you want make I call people make we follow ask you question?"

Preye looked up at him.

" I say , how much dem dey sell dvd plate?"

"150." preye said with a tear-laden voice.

"You no fit afford am?" The man asked.

Preye was mute.
"You no fit afford am?" The man repeated.

"I fit" preye Replied.

"But you just wan carry me play?"

"Abeg..."

"No beg me, just dey answer my questions." The man insisted.

"I say weda you wan carry me play?"

Preye looked at the man, he said no.

"how much gain you think say I dey make from this business?"

"Please sir.." Preye attempted a plea again but was rudely cut.

"I say no beg, make we interact like men."

" Shebi you know say e don reach like 30minutes wey you enter this store wey you dey carry me play, una no wan buy anything una just wan steal"

"My friends no follow!" Preye was quick to object.

"But you no say, if I raise alarm now , dem no go consider that one wey you just yarn?"

The boys were silent.

"Shebi una hear of 4 boys wey dem burn 4 aluu ?"

He paused for some minutes observing them shrewdly.
" Una don pause to think if those boys fit dey innocent? Una don pause to think how e dey easy to lose your life for this country? Una know the risk involved for wetin una just do? I dey talk to all of 'una' because una be friends and if una dey waka together una be the same thing"

Jerry and Wike clearly disapproved the man's comments regarding them, but they had to exhibit humility to avoid what could turn out to be a big humiliation to their friend. They Pleaded instead.

The Petite lady made a soft plea to her brother/husband.
He seemed to calm down, he was never over the top in anger anyways. He asked preye to go and keep the DVD plate from where he had uninstalled them. Preye did.

He admonished them further on the dangers of crime and the golden opportunity of education which they had to strive to hold on to and make use of; his words really touched the boys, the episode seemed to be ending and with it the tension, when from nowhere, an over-enthusistic woman made her way into the 'crime scene'.
The ibo man was familiar with her, she seemed to explain that she observed something unusual was going on here from across where her store was.
They communicated in ibo further and the ibo man divulged the nature of the 'something unusual' she'd noticed.

The woman was a busybody, she gripped Preye by the Collar .
"Na una dey thief our things she cried, una no get conscience! Una go come pretend like say una wan buy something na thief una go thief . All my DVD's wey dem don thief don reach to open another store , God don punish you today thief! You be thief!..."
She continued to rant on and on, ignoring the pleas of Wike and Jerry.
It was in this situation that Nancy and her friends walked in ,they had barely made a complete entry when they experienced the shock of their lives, as preye was been accused of theft, and Wike and Jerry were pleading on his behalf.

"Na thief ! Tell una school people make them know am, him be thief , na DVD him thief, him be armed robber...", she shook preye by the collar as she directed her announcement to the girls.
The girls were shocked but What nancy felt was far beyond shock; She was heartbroken and ashamed. This was a Guy she'd told her friends she was crazy about, a guy she had admired even when he didn't know her, a guy she could before now , swear he couldn't do such a thing. But Here he was. a Liar and a petty thief.

She wished for a lot of things. she wished she hadn't witnessed this, she wished they'd abandoned the idea of going to buy movies when Benedicta suggested they danced to some music instead. But what had already been done couldn't be undone. They Left the premises shortly.

The store owner soon prevailed on the Woman to stop making a scene , and the boys were allowed to go their way.
Preye traveled to the capital that same evening and stayed for a week with his parents.
He never heard from Nancy again, neither did he reach out to her.

Wike and Jerry continued to reach out to preye even as he tried to avoid them out of shame, they made him understand they were still his close friends irrespective of the unfortunate incident.

For preye the shock lingered throughout the semester.
The End.
