Most movies with highest revenues were directed by Yorubas.

Yoruba produces just need to revamp Nollywood with their genius skills, regardless of language barrier.

Nollywood needs the likes of Kunle Afolayan, Biyi Bandele, Tunde Olaoye and Tunde Kelani to produce meaningful movies, unlike the crab Nollywood's one-day-shooting movies.

Yoruba culture is high in demand. They need to find ways to market it.

Yorubas need to revamp their Yorubawood first. Charity they say, begins at home.

Reading through the replies by Igbos reaffirms Wale's sentiments. Igbos are secretly envious of Yorubas' marketable culture.

Which other language in Nigeria competes with English? Of course English language will have more views because its speakers are huge. Yet Yoruba language still competes with it.

No. Igbos could care less about Yorubas culture. We are just guarding our sweat and treasure and investment ie Nollywood, making sure the Yorubas don't get a sniff at it and hijack our efforts and reward by colluding with the North( Kannywood)

Ndiigbo created Nollywood from scratch, Yorubas have Yorubawood, they should perfect it.

Then why is Wale's post biting you guys' fingers?

Yorubas don't get a sniff? Of the poorly plotted movies you guys "direct"? It's the other way around. What a joke.

Yoruba produced movies and Yoruba oriented movies get more attention/gross. Yoruba is a profitable culture and has earned Nollywood some spotlight. When people around the world wants to learn more about Yorubas, they refer to Nollywood.

I expect Nollywood views to go up in the newly Yoruba-language accredited school regions in Europe and in South America (Dominican Rep., Cuba and Brazil).

Yorubas bringing good attention to Nigeria since the days of Saworoide. Our language is even competing with English.

A Nollywood film festival in Brazil.

Yorubas need to wake up and revamp Yorubahood. Market! Market! Market!

As director Kelani states: "The list of nine films selected for the Festival are important because the films are valuable not only to the Yorubas in the homeland, but especially to Yorubas in the Diaspora, who despite 200 years to 300 years of slave-trade, have remained true and close to the culture.”

Why are you struggling so hard to associate Yorubas with Nollywood? Do you know about the movie industry more than Wale Adenuga?

He had told you what we have been telling you people on this forum. Nollywood = Ndiigbo and non Igbo groups in the deep south. Yorubawood= Yorubas, Kannywood = Hausa-Fulani.

This is bitter pill you are finding so hard to swallow, but believe me, it will do your health lots of good if you do.

Your first sentence shows that you lack comprehension skills.

Yoruba movies took Nollywood to its international communities.

Nollywood = Yoruba produces + Yoruba movies. Yorubahood just recently separated itself and international communities are still inclined to think of Nollywood as both Yoruba and English.

Yorubahood also needs to revamp its English subtitles. Bad subtitle puts them on the same level as Nollywood movies; terrible plots.

Nollywood= Igbo movies acted mostly in English. Yorubawood= Yoruba movies acted mostly in Yoruba. Kannywood= Hausa movies acted totally in Hausa.

This is how it is. If Yorubawood is now copying the nollywood model of acting their movies more in English than in Native Yoruba, then good for them. But they still remain Yorubawood, just a bit rebranded by as usual copying the Igbo model.

It is important that this three distinction be maintained. Why exactly Yorubas are trying so hard to be seen as part of the Nollywood success story is beyond me, their Hausa cousins are quite comfortable with their Kannywood.

I am telling you how it is.

Yorubawood is quite old, it is many years older than
nollywood, likewise Kannywood.

Nollywood is relative young, and the brain behind it is unmistakably Igbo, the model they adopted is business oriented and had since seen them surpass Yorubawood and Kannywood.

If Yorubawood is now adopting the business model of nollywood, it's fine and dandy. But Nollywood for strategic purposes, must remain distinguished from Yorubawood and Kannywood, it must remain in the hands of the creators, it must not become one with Yorubawood, so that history revisionists from that part of the country will not come and 're write the story tomorrow when they must have liaised with the Northern elements to wrestle the control of nollywood from us.

Igbos wanna claim Nollywood after Yorubas made it and brought in international communities.

Should Yoruba producers like Kunle Afolayan leave Nollywood, Nollywood would just be another overrated bad plots.

And STILL THESE YORUBAS OWN NOLLYWOOD.

Nollywood and Yorubawood are all New terms. But we all know what they represent.

Yorubas have been in the business of movie making since stone age, but their model of film making wasn't money spinning, it had since evolved to be known as Yorubawood.

Igbos are relatively new to movie making, and we're only interested in making money out of it, so we created a money spinning model of movie industry that developed independent of the Yorubas movie industry, that Igbo movie industry had since evolved to be known as Nollywood today.

All attempts by Yorubas to collapse Nollywood into Yorubawood and claim to be originators of Nollywood will always be resisted by Ndiigbo, you must bear that in mind. That's exactly the tribalism Adenuga speaks of.

Ndiigbo insists that Nollywood for history and future purposes must be separated from Yorubawood.

If Yorubawood is today copying Igbo movie model and producing good English movies, fine and dandy, but they must remain under Yorubawood or seek for New names for themselves.

Listen to Adenuga.

“A corollary to the foregoing is the
unhealthy situation in which we now have
Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa operating
separately under the aegis of Nollywood,
Yorubawood and Kannywood respectively".

The more you lots press to collapse Yorubawood into nollywood, the more Ndiigbo will fear your sinister motive and resist you. Be comfortable with your Yorubawood, Hausas are quite comfortable in their Kannywood.

Braziil's Nollywood festival....... Yoruba movies were selected for preview.

Nollywood still living off of Yoruba spotlight.

Nollywood is still a Yoruba industry ... with popular Yoruba actors/actress and successful Yoruba producers.

Since English is spoken by all, Yorubas own both Yorubawood and Nollywood.

Nollywood may have higher percentage of Igbo/ non-Yoruba actors, Yorubas still run the show. No one even knows Igbowood exists.
