Ahead of Chelsea’s post-season friendly against Thailand All-Stars Jose Mourinho ruled out a big spend over the summer but revealed that two or three players would likely be incoming.

The Portuguese manager stressed that his priority is to keep his current crop of talent happy in order to sustain the Premier League champions’ success. Mourinho told the press: “We like the players, we are happy with the players.

“Two or three are always coming to the club, that’s normal. The players I am looking for are my players, the players I want to keep. Last season I had players I wanted to sell.”

He also added that it is difficult to improve on the players he already has.

“The most important thing in the market is not to lose players. How can I find a better striker than Diego Costa? A better midfielder than (Nemanja) Matic? A better right-back than (Branislav) Ivanovic?”

But Mourinho is a man that keeps his cards close to his chest and although he would be happy with his squad, for good reason as they’ve just been crowned the champions of England, he’s said before that no manager is ever fully satisfied and I’m sure the Blues will be in the running to compete for the finest talent available come July.

As they are Chelsea are in a good state and will likely be challenging for the league again next season as their rivals have much to do before they can hope to match them, but sustaining success is easier said than done and Mourinho’s lack of a European title with the west London club will stick in his craw, it’s the one thing he’s missing.

Chelsea fans know how much of a difference one or two signings can make, look at the impact of Costa and Cesc Fabregas this season.
It may not take much to make Chelsea a serious player in Europe once again and if Mourinho can claim the signature of players the quality of a Raphael Varane, Antoine Griezmann or even Gareth Bale, then they’ll be well on their way.
