starting with number 6.

Noise is from one of the parts that roll on serpentine belt side. Will take out intake and my bet is water pump or alternator
.
Re: Remotely Follow Your Vehicle Repairs Online by GAZZUZZ(m): 10:59am On May 16, 2016
getting to waterpump/tensioner/alternator.

Not a lot of space in this design

Re: Remotely Follow Your Vehicle Repairs Online by GAZZUZZ(m): 11:01am On May 16, 2016
finally 1hr later it's all out and culprit seems to be the water pump. Roller on tensioner is fine alternator is fine too

Modified: over 2hrs later and culprit is out and confirmed.

7. (wrong engine oil was used in last service 20W50, but will check sparkplugs and air filter will drain and refill with mobil 1 5W30)
Re: Remotely Follow Your Vehicle Repairs Online by GAZZUZZ(m): 11:22am On May 16, 2016
8. Will ignore for now, inspected oil colour and looked on the inside of the intake, and I'm sure engine is not burning oil.

It was most likely vapor
Re: Remotely Follow Your Vehicle Repairs Online by GAZZUZZ(m): 11:29am On May 16, 2016
9. Throttle body is cable type so will service idle control speed valve.

ok let's look at the scan codes a bit. Engine and transmission.

P0113 IAT sensor circuit high voltage.

This means the engine ecu does not know the temperature of the air coming into the intake side of the vehicle, in most cases the vehicle will store this code if the harness was removed when ignition was switched on or engine running. Iv not see one go bad in this model of honda so I will erase and watch to see if it comes back.

Note it will affect fuel consumption.

P1259 Vtec system Failure. This is responsible for number 10 on the list.

P1259 HONDA - VTEC System Malfunction

Repair Importance Level: 3/3
Repair Difficulty Level: 3/3
Possible causes
- Low engine oil pressure or level
- Open or short circuit condition
- Faulty VTEC oil pressure switch
- Faulty VTEC solenoid
What does this mean?
When is the code detected?
The P1259 is set when there is a problem in the VTEC Oil Pressure Switch circuit or VTEC Solenoid Valve circuit
Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
P1259 Honda Description
The VTEC system activates the VTEC solenoid valve by command from the powertrain control module (PCM), and it charges/discharges the hydraulic circuit of the VTEC mechanism that is installed in the valve system to switch valve timing between Low and High. The PCM monitors oil pressure conditions in the hydraulic circuit of the VTEC mechanism according to the VTEC oil pressure switch downstream of the VTEC solenoid valve. If there is a disparity between oil pressure condition in the hydraulic circuit that is determined by the PCM command, and the oil pressure condition that is determined by the status of the VTEC oil pressure switch, the system is considered faulty and a DTC is stored.

Presently oil level is normal, and there are no leaks to cause a pressure drop to the vtech sensor, so I will assume sensor is faulty.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/3720245_img20160516104528_jpeg6dd9fec480b4cfbb12834d0eb35dc9a3

There it is sitting at the back of the engine.

This will cause vehicle to go into limp mode.

Vtech sensor out www.nairaland.com/attachments/3720381_img20160516123917_jpege05fcffc400903d6b7f8e55d5d637701

www.nairaland.com/attachments/3720382_img20160516123909_jpegb31c4b03bcfcbfa057bd7fa7d3cb5bf2

P1457 Evap control system leak.

This is very straight forward, just means the fuel tank is unable to hold vacuum, I'll start by checking the tank cover and other parts of the Evap line, with a live scan I can tell if problem has been fixed.

Modified: got a vtech sensor off a tokumbor engine in the market and has been installed

5.

Is caused by abs codes on scan results.

Front left and right wheel speed sensors.

Modified: this was a bit tricky, let's go over the codes again

www.nairaland.com/attachments/3719766_img20160516093833_jpegda4e98564cdb9ba99cbbbb4953f043e3

Checked resistance of the abs sensors. And they ok, checked functionality on live scan and they were giving off accurate information I cleared codes and went for a drive and the codes disappeared! But when I hit the throttle hard and the front wheel slipped I noticed the abs lights came back on sad

Now this car is an AWD but has its propeller taken out due to a noisy rear differential, in order to permanently fix the abs issues the propeller has to be returned and the rear differential replaced. The abs codes did not point to an open circuit but was confused when the front wheels slipped without the rear wheels moving. shocked

3. Checked transmission oil colour and have test driven vehicle, but can seem to notice problem stated, will drain and refil transmission with DW1 just to be on the safe side.www.nairaland.com/attachments/3720246_img20160516111238_jpegde1f9cdddedb729c3d434663b2bbe4aa

GAZZUZZ:

vehicle is now usable.

Problems were

Faulty distributor cover and spark plug wires, faulty spark plugs, clogged injectors leaking O rings at base of injectors, faulty coil, faulty B1 S1 O2 sensor.

All have been replaced except for the O2 sensor, vehicle drives very well no and does not stall.

engine replacement lexus RX350.

Reason, ruptured oil cooler lines.

Problem: A defective design of the VVT-i oil line is a rubber hose which routes a high pressure flow of hot engine oil outside the engine block.  The rubber deteriorates over time and miles and can unexpectedly break or rupture causing engine oil to rapidly drain from the engine. This can happen anywhere from about 20,000 to over 100,000 miles and can lead to very expensive repairs. Most owners report getting no warning from the from the oil or check engine lights before they realize they have a problem.

Vehicles affected: Any 2005 - 2009 Toyota or Lexus with the 3.5L V6 2GR-FE engine manufactured worldwide prior to April, 2008.

Manufactuing fix: Replace the defective metal & rubber oil line "assembly" with an all metal oil line.

Recall fix: Change out faulty rubber hose in the oil line "assembly" with a higher stregnth rubber hose.  The rubber hose was not replaced with an all metal oil line as was done in the manufacturing fix was becasue in some but not all vehicles afftected, the job is very labor intensive if the engine compartment is a "tight fit" which could (but not in all cases) require removal of the power steering pump, sepentine belts, etc depending on how "tight" the engine compartment is.

Not a very smart design using rubber pipes to hold hot engine oil.

I have a guy who goes to hunt for clean engines for me in ladipo market, I ran the vin of chassis tagged to the engine to be bought and the mileage was very reasonable. Also I ensured I got a 2GR-FE engine that didn't come with the crappy oil cooler lines. So vehicle owner is assured he will not be having this problem in the future.

This is the new engine.

Look carefully near where the a.c compressor should fit

Not easy updating this thread and working at the same time (I do most of the oily jobs) but will try as much as possible to put 3 or 4 jobs here every week. Up next complete make over of a kia rio 2010, engine, suspension, body work, paint work, wheels, interior.

Nice precaution to take. That VVT hose burst is just like glaucoma. No symptoms; just sweeps on you with dire consequences. Mine is the toughened hose, but I look forward to replacing it with the all metal as soon as I find one.

Kudos!

Very hard to find one with the metal line but in all honesty the rupture doesnt happen so often if you take into cognizance the number of Toyota/Lexus models running with the same engine

I've been using eyes to search for that metallic line. I need to source it for a very dear brother. Although his isn't bad yet.
