Good morning Agriculturists,

I've been moved by going through various researches both from this website and via Google to begin a snail farm.

My snail farm is not really a farm as per say. It is just a bucket where the snail will be raised till maturity. To avoid the infestation of insects, ants and diseases, my snailery will be suspended in the air with ropes like a playground swing.

Pictures will follow up later.

How many snails are you starting off with? And what species are they?

Now as I said earlier, this is small scale breeding in a paint bucket. I just picked them up from around my compound today and I'll still pick up more later at night and in my farm too.

I don't know the species really but I think they are Achinata marginata.

Good evening all,

Since today, I've been doing more of hunting for snails. But luckily, I've been able to get almost 60 snails in all mostly small snails.

I set a trap for them with pawpaw. I've set my alarm for 10pm lemme see how many I can catch. It's a good thing they can't run fast cheesy

By tomorrow, I'll set them up properly. pictures will come in.

Till then. Be safe!!

Great work though, starting agric from resources you have rather than always looking to spend, buy, buy is wise.

I'm following this thread closely.

Thanks boss for the encouragement. It's better you start from the little you have. If the need be to purchase, then fine. There's a reason why they are called natural resources.....

Alright... I was supposed to move my new peeps to their permanent site yesterday but I was quite busy so I shifted it to today.

I counted them today. In all, they are about 114! Just from my house alone! Beautiful number

Happy Sunday to us all,

So yesterday being Saturday, I was able to move my "boys" to their permanent site although I'm still planning and thinking of changing their new habitat to a more secure one. While searching for these snails, I saw some of their eggs in the ground and I'm happy to say that out of 7 eggs, one hatched yesterday. A bouncing new baby snail added to the family! cheesy

I couldn't get the picture sha embarassed

They are all in the bucket.

Here's the soil I used for their habitat

I sieved and removed all sorts of impurities from them.

My "boys" in their new home. I gave them ugu leaves, pawpaw leaves, pawpaw and water leaves yesterday to eat. On coming back this morning, I realized that they finished everything except the water leaves. Seems like they don't like it that much

That's good bro, nice work, but don't you think that the paint bucket is the small for that quantity(more that 100 snails). With that quantity in that small bucket there will be no space for the to move around, so i will advice you to prepare a more comfortable place for them. I started my own snail farm on the first of june, they are doing fine as well, although i fine it difficult to get most of the things they eat.

Thanks a lot

I'm not sure what I have in my farm is Achatina Achatina and besides, I'm just starting out newly from locally sourced materials/snails so I wouldn't really have what you are looking for.

Snails are doing quite well. For now, I'm still feeding them vegetable (ugu) leaves.

I'll buy watermelon and pawpaw for them today.

I moved them to a new site today after a near drowning experience two days ago.

The second white bucket is my hatchery. I have about 40 eggs in there.

Countdown to 29 days
