The names you mentioned, Abraham, Jacob, David and Solomon were not Christians..

Christianity started with the coming of Christ.,

@your question, the answer is no, a Christian should marry just one wife.

No,a born again Christian cannot marry more than one wife.
Those examples of Abraham,David etc your mentioned were not Christians. They were people under a period where grace and truth had not come and God permitted then because it had not yet become possible to take on the nature of the recreated man which happened by the redemptive works of Jesus Christ.

Jesus said,......from the beginning, male and female created He them(Matt.19:4-9).Which means God's design was a man and one wife in the first place.

Trust me, who ever is going to marry more than one wife will do it, irrespective of whether his religious belief permit it or not. Man will take irrational decisions over a piece of ''Punny''.

Simply put, a Christian is a follower and adherent of teachings of Christ.

The people you mentioned are great names but lived way back in old testament before Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 7:2 'But because of immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband.
In this context, if you now have more than one wife, then it becomes immortality.

If you don't understand it doesn't make it false.God said,...... in all thy getting, get understanding(Proverbs 4).

Question: "If a man has multiple wives and
becomes a Christian, what is he supposed to
do?"
Answer: Since polygamy is frowned upon in most
societies, this is not a question too many people
think about. But there are still numerous places
in the world where polygamy is accepted. Many
Muslim countries allow polygamy. For a man to
have multiple wives is somewhat common in
several African nations. Even in the United
States, there are some communities that endorse
polygamy. However, virtually all Bible scholars
agree that polygamy is not for Christians (see
Why did God allow polygamy / bigamy in the
Bible?
). What, then, should a polygamist do if he places
his faith in Jesus Christ and becomes a
Christian?
Most people immediately give an answer like “he
should divorce all of his wives but one.” While
that seems to be an ethical solution, the
situation is usually not quite that simple. For
example, which wife does he keep? His first
wife? His last wife? His favorite wife? The wife
that has borne him the most children? And what
about the wives he divorces? How do they
provide for themselves? In most cultures that
allow polygamy, a previously married woman has
very little opportunity to provide for herself and
even fewer possibilities of finding a new
husband. And what happens to the children of
these wives? The situation is often very
complicated. There is rarely a simple solution.
We do not believe polygamy is something God
approves of in this era. However, the Bible
nowhere explicitly gives a “thou shalt not marry
multiple wives” command. In the New Testament,
a polygamist is ineligible for church leadership ( 1
Timothy 3:2 , 12; Titus 1:6 ), but polygamy itself is
not forbidden. Polygamy was not God’s original
intent ( Genesis 2:24 ; Ephesians 5:22-33 ), but it
was also something He allowed (see the
examples of Jacob, David, and Solomon). The
closest the Bible comes to forbidding polygamy
is Deuteronomy 17:17 , which is properly
understood as God’s command against a king of
Israel taking many wives. It cannot be
understood as a command that no man can ever
take more than one wife.
So, if a man has multiple wives and becomes a
Christian, what is he supposed to do? If
polygamy is illegal where he lives, he should do
whatever is necessary to submit to the law
( Romans 13:1-7 ), while still providing for his
wives and children. If polygamy is legal, but he is
convicted that it is wrong, he should divorce all
but one wife, but, again, he must not neglect
providing for all of them and their children. They
are his responsibility. If polygamy is legal and he
has no conviction against it, he can remain
married to each of his wives, treating each one
with love, dignity, and respect. A man who
makes this decision would be barred from church
leadership, but it cannot be said that he is in
explicit violation of any command in Scriptures. www.gotquestions.org/multiple-wives.html

The answer to the question is capital NO!!! in the beginning God created them male and female, no polygamy in mind. so shall a man leaves his father and mother become one with the wife, 1+1=1 according to God mathematics you can read more on marriage and divorce from below;

Marriage is a bond between man and woman to stay as a union till death do them part. In God mathematics one plus one is equal to one not two. But when marriage cannot stand it’s primary purpose it become enduring rather than enjoying relationship. Jesus reinstated the important of marriage by a man leaving father and mother to be joined to the woman. Marriage is between a man and a woman not a boy and girl. The two should be one flesh no one should put asunder. ‘Marriage is for better and for worse”. But unfortunately many sign marriage contract like job contract or buying household property. If the contract run smoothly it is renewed but if doesn’t it is cancel. It goes that way all over the world now. However, it is not so from the beginning. God hate putting away. In the beginning he created them male and female to be one flesh and let no man put asunder. This is the original will of God from the creation. However, today the case is different.

One of the teachings of Jesus Christ is that separation is based on the ground of fornication for courtship only, many marriages today are not complying with this directive rather given of excuses for separation. Many bible scholar also argue that married couple cannot commit fornication rather adultery. In Israel couple can be betrothed without proper marital engagement. It is obvious from bible account that betrothed wife cannot commit adultery because they are not legally married. In our world today we regard it as courtship or they are dating, if at this stage they know themselves carnally then it is fornication and not adultery. Joseph can equally divorce Mary because they are just in courtship. but he was warned of God not to do so.

In view of this, many pastors and church goers divorce without given any serious reasons. They are disobedient to the word of God, reprobate and sensual. I have seen a so-called prophetess divorcing her husband to marry a handsome guy while the husband is still alive. This is an evidence of walking in darkness not in the light. If you are born of God you will walk in the light no matter the problem in your marital life. Marriage is “for better for worse”, for Christians.

Nothing in the Bible states that a Christian should marry just one wife. That it is the practice in Christianity doesn't mean that it's the correct position as divinely decreed.

PLS CONSIDER THIS TRUE LIFE ENCOUNTER TOPIC
CAN A PASTOR MARRY 7 WIVES FOR EVANGELISM SAKE.

LIKE SERIOUSLY I NEED THOUGHTFUL REPLIES BECAUSE THERE'S MORE TO IT THAN JUST A PUBLIC READ.

He is a Yoruba Guy over 30 and he received the move to start another church/movement and was given a calling that has to do with "UNITING THE GLOBAL DIVIDE" ie Reconciling Everything Back to God through the Lamb that was Slain Jesus-Christ. All Tribes, Denominations, Religions, Race, Colours, etc and he lost and buried his TWO HANDSOME SONS in a prior relationship that was meant to end in marriage, which was delayed by both families not agreeing with themselves but recently He found out his children were taken because he pleaded and prayed to God that 12 Wives was too much that was why his children were taken. (You wonder if God can be that harsh) let me stop hear and explain later

For Evangelism sake the Spirit (whether correct or not) says his 7 Wives must in the long run come from:-

1. Igbo (Which will head all the 6-like Queen Mother and as a means of compensating the marginalized)
2. Black Race
3. White Race
4. Red Race (Asian)
5. Pink Race (Other Race)
6. Christian (Rep Mother of all Christians)
7. Muslim (Rep Mother of all Muslims)

To explain better He lost his two sons who were from a Yoruba Woman because if he was to keep a Yoruba Wife, he must also marry hausa, igbo, then the others extending it all to 12 Wives, meaning that the minimum he could marry is 7 in the above other. (I believe you understand now am trying to be brief as possible) All these are arranged for Evangelism, Global Peace Keeping and Uniting the Global Divides Sake.

Now tell me what you think in general, any advice, any comments and be sincere and really consider if He was your Brother, Your Friend, and Your

However having multiple wives and children can breed jealousy, division, competition and worse. Not worth it in this day and age. One woman should suffice.
