"The school of hard knocks" is a popular idiomatic phrase meaning the (Sometimes Painful) education one gets from life's usually negative experiences. It can also be likened to knowledge gained from street rather than books. "Whatever you learn from the School of Hard Knocks, you learn as a result of difficult, challenging or unpleasant experiences". But the beauty of this life's institution is that it has students from all works of life, even though its larger bulk of students are from the lower class of the society because of their peculiar economic challenge.

The school of hard knocks gives its students individual lectures through personal experiences with few exceptions as group experiences. This institution awards certificates that are intangible but noticeable in one's character and approach to life, that is if you make it to graduation as the case may be. Unfortunately most of its student never make it to graduation as reflected in the higher level of poverty in our societies today especially the third world countries like Africa.

The experiences we get from this institution of life no matter how difficult is meant to transform us into better individuals depending on how we interprete these challenges. Some people are left devastated and traumatized by life challenges, they form a habit of resistance and back out from the unavoidable demands of life. These individuals seek comfort over challenge and safety over growth, a situation that makes an under achiever who can never be truly successful in life.

Others see these challenges as a stair way to success regardless of their present location in the society. Because those who experience more of what they desire in life are those who do not back out from the challenges and growth process of life. These are people with high self esteem that emerged from difficult childhood were they had to face their problem headlong. They take the Hard Knocks of life with discipline and form a habit that allow them use their talent and gifting profitably.

So folks if you are currently a student of the "School of Hard Knocks" hang on there and develop a positive mind set that allow you see progress in every situation. Be sure you will graduate out of that situation a better person and it will be visible in your touch and approach to life. So don't quit keep pushing until you get your intangible but priceless certificate from this world largest university of life.
