Covenant University, Ota, Ogun, state has graduated a total of 1, 315 students, with 104 bagging First Class Degree.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Charles Ayo, said this at a media briefing ahead of the institution’s 10th convocation.

Ayo said that the event was for the award of first and higher degrees in various disciplines in the institution.

He said that of the 1,315 students, 610 others would be graduating in the Second Class Upper Division, while 510 will be graduating in the Second Class Lower Division.

According to him, a total of 91 others would be graduating in the Third Class Division.

A 22-year-old student of Electric and Electronic Engineering, Emmanuel Ebubechukwu, has emerged the overall best graduating student at the Covenant University, Ota, with an incredible 4.96 GCPA.


The don said that the institution would also be graduating a total of 135 postgraduate students during the ceremony.

He said that the number of this year’s first class graduates was an improvement on the 82 the institution produced at the 2014 convocation.

Ayo said that the institution’s products had found it easy to pursue further education in Ivy League universities around the world as a result of the quality of education offered in the university.

“The university’s goal for the 2014/2015 academic session is innovation, impact and internalisation.

“In order to achieve this goal, the university established 21 multidisciplinary research clusters that are committed to proffering solutions to myriad of challenges facing our society.

What about unilag producing 130 first class, is Unilag also a private Uni? U ppl better stop hating cos u can't afford it. These private varsities provide the correct environment for there students to learn and I can tell u dat even u will perform better if u're in such environment not the ones we're exposed to in our so called federal varsities.

you think the low turnout of 1st class students in fed uni is as a result of "good standards" no, faaar from that. Most of the lecturers in fed units don't grade students according to the outstanding performers of the student (and I honestly wonder why they do this.) The "A is for God, B is for my self and B for the brilliant students" mentality these lecturers have is really sickening and frustrating! Thats why most students in fed unis are frustrated or angry when they see other students from a different uni getting it easily yes getting it easily!
We all have our frustrations, but on different levels. So the fact that yours is brutal doesn't mean its the 'best'

Compare the population of Unilag student to this school in question, besides it's even 125 students out of 10600

Even Kwasu that is a state Uni produces just 6 1st class student
