Mozambique decriminalized homosexuality Monday when a new penal code came into force that swept away old Portuguese colonial laws, in a victory for campaigners for gay rights.

The old code, dating back to 1886, targeted anyone “who habitually engages in vices against nature” — though no known prosecutions took place after Mozambique became independent in 1975.

Breaking the law was punishable by up to three years of hard labor.

“It's a symbolic victory, as social inclusion remains the main challenge,” Frank, a student gay rights activist who declined to give his full name, told Agence-France Presse.

The new penal code, which was announced last December by then President Armando Guebuza, also decriminalizes abortion after lobbying by civil rights organizations.

Women can now end a pregnancy until the 12th week. Extraordinary circumstances, such as rape or threats to the mother's life, allow for the procedure until the 16th week.

The code came into force on Monday, though no official events or celebrations were scheduled to mark the occasion.

The majority of African countries outlaw homosexuality, but Mozambique has seen little anti-gay violence or social friction over the issue.

Dercio Tsandzana, an influential blogger and activist, said there had been an absence of public discussion over homosexual rights.

“The government instead abides by the external pressure put by some embassies and foreign donors,” he said.

“Most Mozambicans don't deny homosexuality, but one can't say either that it is accepted.“

Despite a seven-year campaign, the Mozambican government has not officially recognized Lambda, the only gay rights organization in the country.

In neighboring Zimbabwe, President Robert Mugabe is known for his crusades against homosexuality, and discrimination is widespread across the continent.

Homosexuality is punishable by death in Sudan, Nigeria and Mauritania.

In some parts of Nigeria FATHERS are arrested nearly everyday sleeping with their daughters.

In the Mostly Northern part of Nigeria Homosexuality is an open business.

The Itsekiri Tribe in Delta State marry their First Cousins(me and you na brother and our pikin fit marry).

The TIV Tribe in Benue State give their wives to visitors.

The Muslims in the North Marry 8 Year old girls.

Denrele the entertainer flaunts his GAYNESS openly.

Nigeria is a country of HYPOCRITES and are acting like America just invented the word GAY, we have our OWN forbidden things as stated above that we do. Let us clean our HOUSE before another Country's problems kill us in Nigeria.

Legalising Homosexuality in Africa would be tied to Foreign Aids that African leaders are receiving from Western Supremacists.

Bunch of corrupt and gluttonous leaders.

Few years ago it was a toboo for women to wear trousers, i mean good trousers. Not the nylon women wear now in public. And now trousers are are now accepted by my christian brothers, even many churches are even allowing ladies to wear bump shorts to church.
Now this gay issue! Oh my God is so irritating to discuss about talk more of watching a picture of it, is encrouching the land of birth (africa). I fear for our unborn children because soonest my country Nigeria will soon join them for not to be left alone by the so called civilisation. Hmmm.... Our children will lose sense of morality. They will term me it normal. Oh i cry for my fellow Africans, bc once we accept this rubbish over sabi go dey worry us. We go over do d thing.

PLEASE READ FREINDS grin

I saw an ad :"lose 5kg in a
week" in a newspaper.
I called the company & lady says
be ready tomorrow at 6am.

The next morning i opened the
door & finds a hot babe with just
shoes, undergarments & shirt
saying : "u catch me u Bleep me!"
&
the girl starts running.
I started running but doesn't
catch her. During the whole
week
i tried to catch her but couldn't.
However i lost 5 kg.
I then asked for the 10kg
program.

Next morning at 6 i opened the
door and saw an even hotter
babe in shoes, thong & a shirt
saying: "u catch me u Bleep me".
I lost 10 kg that week. So i
thought this program is
awesome!
Lets try the 25 kg! So i asked
for
the 25 kg but the lady said "R u
sure ? its really tough".
I said
"YES! grin emoticon "

Next day at 6 i opened the door,
i found a gay in just underwear
saying.. "If I catch u, I will Bleep
u.."
.
.
.
.
.
.
That day i lost 40KG!
grin

As long as it doesn't affect us in anyway, i don't see how that is my business. What we won't tolerate is if they start forcing down their issues on straight people.
