The ancient Biafran empire was established around 2500BC with capital at Igbo Ukwu.
Biafra in ancient Igbo isn't really known.. Though many researchers say its 'Be Afra' which means place/residence of Afra

Yoruba man. You see why Nnamdi Kanu thinks that you are just like your ancestor satan Oduduwa?
Incapable of speaking the truth.
Only a Yoruba can write with so much hate, BUT still turn around to criticise those who want to stay apart from them.
Prophet Nnamdi Kanu says that you will be the last to face judgement in the zoo, but that your judgement will last for ages.

Everybody wants a united Nigeria but the way things are going naija aint united. The greatest undoing of the igbos will be to drag other unwilling tribe to Biafra. As an igbo boy,i wudnt like igala and idoma to be included in the Biafra tingy. the are more or less northern in character.

I read an article on nairaland the other day. The person was saying that the igbos should develop the geopolitical zone and not opt for a new country. If you ask me, we should practise a type of fiscal federalism, where we generate our own revenue and develop our part of the country and stop relying on crude oil, export our locally produced goods through the akwa ibom port, build an inter state rail way (I am sure we can find foreign investors for that if we are serious enough) which will facilitate the movement of goods to the port . I know the plan is to ambitious but it can be done . That is what we should do and stop fighting for a hopeless biafra

I still don't know what exactly these pro-Biafra people think they'll get in a 'Biafra' that they can't get in the current Nigeria. The leaders of the movement simply want to corner the oil and gas wealth of the region in the name of 'Biafra', and cut out the rest of the country. Make themselves stupendously rich. If all they had was bananas they wouldn't go to all this trouble.

There is so much hate and tribalism on this thread!
I am Yoruba and I believe in one Nigeria but if igbos really want to leave I can't stop them. I just ask them to do it peacefully and/or through a referendum. War is not a joke and I don't want to have to fight a war with my neighbours and friends. I also hope that the Director would cease with all his hate mongering. If he wants to speak the "truth" about Nigeria he can do it without throwing insults at his fellow countrymen. All it does it breed xenophobia and tribalism.

I noticed that the OP left out the most important part of the article.

Our investigations have observed that the Director has a growing influence on the minds of many who come from the other side of the Niger. The danger in this is that people in that region are beginning to accept whatever he says as the gospel truth. To the unreasoning mind, the Director is framing the thoughts of many of his listeners and predisposing them to dangerous tendencies. Without going into specifics, but to underscore what one is trying to say, the relevant authorities should know the danger of a collective mind-set propelled towards a particularly risky direction.

On a bus from Asaba to Onitsha, the bus conductor was busy amusing passengers with the resurgence of the Biafran agenda, Biafran currency, Biafran flag, and the Biafran identity card. Moreover, he spoke about how personnel of the Nigerian Police tactfully accord great recognition to Biafran I.D. cards and are liable to set someone free of any offence the moment he brandishes the I.D. card. The bus conductor was very vociferous in his claims, and one suddenly realised that the commuters were prone to give into emotion than to reason.

The late Muhammad Yusuf, the founder of what started as a band of fundamentalists in Maiduguri and then transformed into a dreaded global Jihadi movement, did not have a radio of his own. He relied on cassette recordings of his messages, which were influenced by hardline Salafi teachers. However, both the late Yusuf and now Kanu, have one thing in common: inasmuch as their messages are in sharp contrast to one another, they both have the undivided attention of teeming youths in their regions.

It is important to note that ‘terrorism’ means different things to different people. While a weighty number of people in the Muslim world do not view groups like Al-Shabab, Taliban, Islamic State, and their affiliates as terrorists, a majority of people consider them full blooded terrorists. It is the same with the Biafran movement: a growing number of people consider the rebellion an inalienable right that will offer Igbos freedom from the superficial Hausa/Fulani hegemony.

Indeed, Radio Biafra is a ticking time bomb. While we must accept that some of the claims made by the late Yusuf over a decade ago and now by Kanu have merit, like that of the alienation of people, what is generally said on radio Biafra is more emotive than rational. Hopefully Muhammadu Buhari’s new government combats some of these obvious imbalances.

The Hutu power radio that heralded the 1994 Rwandan genocide should be a relevant example of what could result if such hate is left unchecked not only by Kanu, but championed by different groups across Nigeria. As people with a background in media studies, we need not overemphasize the power of the media and its inherent capacities to be instruments of negative or positive ends. But, the power of the media should never be underestimated, at least not in this case. Every serious federating unit should be mindful of the insidious influence of proponents of divisive rhetoric within their midst and their potential to nurture the embers of schismatic discords.
Hate speech like that of Radio Biafra's is exactly how the Rwandan genocide started and it exactly how Boko Haram was able to gain so many followers. I am going to say it again. If Igbos really want Biafra, the best way to get it is through peaceful means. War is not the answer especially when we live in the 21st century and the ones who will most likely be directly affected by it would be igbos just like it is the northerners who are feeling the brunt of Boko Haram's devastation.

For those who don't know, Eri remains the common ancestor of Nri and Igala people.
Igala tradition society still uses the four market days whose deities are still owned by the Nris of EnugwuUkwu, Nawfia, EnugwuAgidi and AgukwuNri.

Secondly, I believe a referendum will determine who joins the country and who stays out, so no one should accuse Igbos of annexing any place.

Please access the link above to read what was written by an official of the Igala kingdom regarding the relationship between the Igbos and Igalas.

Igbo Ukwu used to be known as Igbo-Nkwo until a few decades ago, so I don't believe it was the capital of anything.
The part of IgboUkwu where those excavations were made used to be part of Oraeri. Oraeri was an Nri outpost and their kings are still known as Eze Nri.
IgboUkwu never had kingship traditions until the coming of the whiteman and the introduction of warrant chiefs in Igboland and other eastern minority areas.

A royal tomb was discovered in the excavations and as IgboNkwo never had kingship traditions until just about a hundred years ago, it's clear those archaeological findings belong to the Nris, and have been rightly ascribed to the Nris by hisorians and archaeologists
