Twenty two women and girls recruited as would-be suicide bombers by Boko Haram Islamists are undergoing rehabilitation

.The Head of the Countering Violent Extremism Department in the Office of the National Security Adviser, Dr. Fatima Akilu, briefed President Muhammadu Buhari about the department’s activities at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday,June 30.

The objective of the institute is to deradicalize youngsters and women indoctrinated by the militants and used for suicide bombing and fighting against the government institutions.

The organization also exerts every effort to prevent others from joining terrorist organisations and violent sects.

At the moment no fewer than 22 female suicide bombers are undergoing deradicalization programs, after which they will be able to return to their communities.

According to Akilu, the non-military initiative is running simultaneously with the military actions aimed at combating terrorism in Nigeria.

The CVE has already rehabilitated no fewer than 305 victims of terrorism rescued from the Sambisa Forest by the Nigerian army.

Besides, 47 surrendered Boko Haram members voluntarily left the sect and embraced the National Security Corridor Programme.

President Buhari praised the results of the hard work of the Countering Violent Extremism Department in the NSA office and other agencies.

He also promised that the Federal Government will continue to pool resources and provide support to victims of Boko Haram insurgency.
