Taxi drivers in Abuja, on Wednesday, vandalised facilities at Dutse office of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) as their protest against the transport enforcement agency entered the third day.

The painted taxi drivers were also seen in the morning at various locations within the city chanting ‘no more VIO’ with their vehicles adorned with leaves.
The protest, which started on Monday caused traffic gridlock within the city while some vehicles were destroyed.
Mr. Osil Samuel, the officer in charge of Dutse Command of the DRTS, said the drivers arrived the command at about 7:30 a.m. in more than 30 taxis. He said they entered offices and destroyed windows, furniture including the national and DRTS flags.
He, however, said no officer was injured in the demonstration that lasted for some minutes.
Meanwhile, the FCT DRTS Director, Danjuma Aliyu Garba (rtd), during a roundtable meeting with FCT transport union leaders, called on the taxi drivers to maintain law and order.
He said Abuja is a modern city where lawlessness cannot be condoned, “We cannot operate in a place without law and order especially considering how Abuja is important to Nigeria.”
Garba said no transport enforcement agency was set up to deprive people of their daily bread, “but things should be done in the right way’’.
While reiterating the commitment of the agency to addressing the grievances of the taxi drivers, he appealed to the union leaders to caution their members, “search your people, evaluate their actions, if they are doing the right thing?” he queried the union leaders.
The FCT Chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alabi Olrunju, condemned the actions of the taxi drivers and promised to caution his
