These are historic times for our continent, more people in Africa are going to make more money in the months and years ahead than has ever been made in all of the continents history. Recent studies also show that world income is going up at a faster rate than ever before. More people are becoming millionaires and billionaires starting from nothing than has ever been possible in human history.

We now live in an era where knowledge can be considered as the most important resource for entrepreneurs and organisations to remain competitive. Whether you know it or not , in today's world we are all in a race where information is the fuel. So the question is.

Do you have sufficient fuel to participate fully in this race?

If you are happy with your current place in the world, then that is great, the rest of this article is not for you. However, if you feel frustrated by your lack of prosperity and that you are not achieving all that you are capable of. Then read on!

I would like to share a simple ratio that will impact your ability to succeed in work or business, find happiness or fulfilment and achieve your real dreams in today’s world.

Its your EvE ratio

An acronym which stands for your entertainment versus education ratio. It is simply the ratio of time and money spent on education and personal development versus the money and time spent on entertainment and recreation each and every month. I strongly believe that your EvE ratio will in many ways determine your destiny and may be the clue why you lack personal and financial success.

How to work out your EvE ratio

Working out your EvE ratio is pretty simple and straight forward all you need to do is first write down the common areas where you spend your time and money on entertainment each month, some examples are:

nightouts
cable tv
movies
sporting events
Surfing the internet (not work related)
Now write down how much time you spend for each item, and do the same for money you spend and then take the averages for both.

Second part would be to write down areas where you spend time and money on education in a typical month a few examples would be

seminars, webinars
training
classes
books or articles
Professional development.
Do the same calculations as you did with entertainment. You can now work out your EvE ratio by comparing the two averages.

Ideally the numbers should almost match; to indicate that you spend nearly equal amounts of time and money on your personal development as your recreation. Unfortunately most people will find that the entertainment figure far exceed education.

Balancing your EvE ratio

If your EVE ratio is way out of balance that may be a clue to why you may not be earning more, doing more or even becoming more in every area of your personal and professional life.

I can’t afford to spend on education, I don’t have enough time………
I want you to stop and look at the list you just completed and try saying that with a straight face. We have become such an entertainment driven society that lifelong learning is becoming extinct.

I am not suggesting you give up recreational activities but the key is to find a balance. Obviously, entertainment brings great pleasure and it is natural for human beings to be driven mainly towards pleasure and away from pain. But, you should also make sure you learn something new every day and focus on continuous learning and personal development as part of your daily routine.

If you have not developed the habit of reading each day, attending seminars regularly now is the best time to start because somewhere someone else is doing it and inevitably that person will win the race and you will lose.

So you need to start balancing your EvE ratio.
