Northern states need to jointly make massive investments in the education if the region hopes to make progress in the sector, says Senator Shehu Sani. Sani, a senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, said this when he visited Kaduna National Library. According to him there is an "education emergency" that must be tackled, adding that the Northern region has remained educationally inferior compared to the South of the country.
"What is needed here is how the northern states can come together to tackle this issue of education emergency," Sani said. "Kaduna State and the North in general cannot make progress without heavy investment in education."The senator noted that the Boko Haram insurgency and political elites have destroyed the educational system in the North. "There is low level of enrolment in primary, secondary and post education levels.
"There is also general relative lack of interest in education in the North compared to the South."There is low level of investment by northern state governments and previous national government in areas of education in the North," Sani called for concerted action to change the perception that Northerners do not want education.
"Due to the insurgency bedeviling the North-eastern part of the country, the image of the North and northern people nationally and internationally is an image of people that are opposed or resistant to western education." He promised to support the Kaduna National Library in a bid to promote

Shehu Sani is one of the few Northern elders I respect so much because of his vision and mission.

I hope he will use this opportunity as a senator to improve the welfare of the people he is representing and the North at large.

Op, are you from The North, this one you are posting anything about the North so.

Nice job anyway, keep it up.

When their dura dullard doesn't have a certificate how do you expect his followers to have certificate.
The North are following the example of their leader.

I think investment in education should be in the area of orientation and awareness. The north in my opinion does not lack educational institution rather, the youths are not encouraged to pursue education. Northern elite have failed in emphasising the need for quality, hence the nonchalant altitude towards learning by the younger generation. I doubt if the average youth know the important of learning or sees a need for it at all.

The best thing is for the southerners to leave before this get out of hand. Leave their elite to deal with the mess caused by their selfishness.

What has western education done for the South?

I'd rather have Asian education than western education in Nigeria. Oyinbo people are too lazy. Thats why immigrants are taking over.
