governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has called on journalists to join hands with his government to expose perpetrators of corruption.

Abubakar Bello who was represented by the deputy governor , Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Ketso, at the inauguration of the Veteran and Advisory Committee of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Niger State Council at IBB Pen House, Minna , said that journalists should emphasise the things that unite the people rather than things that divide the people.

He said, “Avoid the push for sensational journalism. Let us join hands to fight corruption and expose its perpetrators in all shades and form.”

The governor said that the only way journalists can help to fight corruption is to abide by the ethics of the profession and follow the foot path of the veterans to tap from their experience for both personal and professional lives.

According to him “You need to be seen as promoting unity and integration in the country by reporting and analysing those issues that unite us than those negative issues that tend to threaten the unity of the nation.”

The governor stated that as members of the fourth estate of the realm, the role of the press in a democratic dispensation cannot be overemphasized, adding that it is the responsibility of the journalists to ensure that the right information reaches the people.

He added that access to the right information is essential to the health of democracy because it ensures that citizens make responsible and informed choices rather than acting out of ignorance or misinformation.
