Everyday people talk about starting another war without remembering that war is hell. Thank God for the War Journalist who helps us remember. One such a Journalist is the Frenchman Gilles Caron who first saw war as a French soldier in Algeria and hated it so much that he stopped fighting and spent the last 4 months of his Military service in French chains.

He then went on to fashion photography which he found boring and returned to the front this time without a gun but with a camera and has given us some of the most thought provoking photos from various conflicts including our own Biafra.

My favourite ( if we can call it that ) is this one of wounded Biafran soldiers being left by their mates as the battle turns and the Federals advance.,

Just as you see the back of the fleeing Biafrans you can take inventory of the fright and horror of the surviving wounded soldier in his eyes pleading with the remaining troops ( Caron included ) not to be left behind to a certain death.

Instances like this made Gilles Caron drink heavily and you sure can’t blame him because I would be shooting heroin just to be able to go to sleep.

So as you rattle your swords and gnash your teeth crying for war…remember this side and that the young man on the ground is someone’s son, brother or even a Father. Worse still he may never get to be a Father.

I personally is scared of war, So for that reason, we must continue to live in zoo, intimidated by fellow mortals because there are from the north? We have been exploited all in the name of one Nigeria. Taken for granted, marginalised, maimed for being Christians. Oh com on, drop the goddamn fear.

Its better you live for something or you die for something, than to live for nothing. I'm not a philosopher thou.

In WAR, women are fair game!

The three female detainees shared a room, and were in relative comfort... I remember Boma (not her real name) most vividly. She was the one with a three year old daughter. She looked gentle and patient, she was always quarreling with the guards, particularly with Augustine. One afternoon their quarreling took a furious turn. Augustine tried to beat her up, but failed... Eventually she snatched the whip from him, broke it and threw it away... To my surprise Augustine did not react violently. He moved away and sat on a chair brooding. Shortly afterwards he announced that anyone who wished to urinate could do so. No detainee would lose a chance to get outside, no matter how short a time... Augustine ordered them to urinate on the floor of the lavatory, and not in the water closet. Baffled, the detainees nevertheless obeyed... I had to stand by the door to do it, for by now the entire floor was flooded... After several men had done the round, the lavatory floor was a mess. Augustine inspected it and heaved a sigh of satisfaction. He then ordered Boma to sit on the lavatory floor. She refused, and there was a prolonged struggle, during which her daughter cried loudly in alarm. The uproar attracted Joe and another soldier. They tried to talk Augustine out of it but failed. He reminded them that as the guard on duty it was his prerogative to discipline any unruly detainee. In any case, if DMI got to know that a detainee refused to be punished, they themselves would get into trouble. In the end, Boma was dragged into the lavatory with her daughter, who clung desperately to her. Augustine locked the door on her with pleasure. The woman's contempt for Augustine was so strong that all through the struggle and the final humiliation she did not cry, as most women would have done under the circumstances. She was released some two hours later, after Joe had pleaded strongly on her behalf.

If a people must fight and kill each other to remain one, then they have no business whatsoever being together.

At least, truth isn't yet treasonable.
