Igbo language may be limited to south east as where the native speakers originate from but the language has been spread wide and far over Africa due to the tendency of Igbos to travel out to other areas. Remember we are talking about 'most popular' here and not, maybe, languages with the highest number of speakers. For this reason, it is common to hear Igbo spoken on the streets of Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, Kenya, South Africa, etc. as if it were a native language just as other locally spoken languages. In case you don't know, Igbo language is a recognized official language in Equatorial Guinea. That is what this article is referring to.

I trust Hausa and Yoruba language.

you see, the thing is that Fulanis have more population that Hausas in West Africa, but Hausa language has more speakers than Fulani in West Africa.
