Many have done things you'd never imagine just to live through each passing day. The issue of dichotomy between HND and BSC shouldn't way anyone down or make the other think and believe he/she is better and more favoured.

Most firms and government bodies might employ and promote people with BSC because there has been this frame of mind built round the two certs and not that the individuals involved cannot do the same job well enough. When you say that Poly graduates are Technicians (we know) but what about courses like, Accounting, Pub. Admin, Mass communication, and does it mean that there're Technicians and engineers in Architecture, Building tech in fact the whole school of environmental.

Not withstanding, many judge their dichotomy in terms of Jamb cut-off mark (that doesn't mean that someone who is in the Poly can't make such scores and better) what is big between 200 and 180 as cut-off marks (even at times Universities take it down to 180 due to mass failure in Jamb), I can rewrite next year and do better but I decided to follow the other way.

In this present time where unemployment is the order of the day, and the society is calling for skill acquisition, which cert is more favoured. Now a HND holder is qualified and can still work in that same firm he was rejected at and can also survive on his own due the skill acquired in school. Even in with OND, my friend is working in a bank and furthering his education through weekend program. I myself, as an Architectural student, I've made so many designs and am handling some sites as of now (with OND).

So please my dearest Nairaland siblings, in my own opinion, both certs does not guarantee a better future or make you a hotter cake but it sharpens your way to greatness through what you've done with it not what it has done for you.

But if we searcheth thy heart & truth be told....Employers or the labour market values/considers a B.sc holder to an Hnd holder in Nigeria #fact

So i think it does determine the extent one could go or being promoted in an organization, especially those working in ministries/govt establishment.

[size=18pt]Infact, am tired of hearing about this B.sc&hnd whatever, this discrimination is damn too much, after spending 2yrs for your National Diploma, 1solid year for Industrial Training, and another 2yrs for HND, + additional 1yr strike action, making 6solid yrs, and people will still be condemning such result, I think this yeye government we having should scrap POLYTECNICS, so, this discrimination will stop.

#Enough is Enough.

Most rich people did not become rich by applying what they learned in school, if not every graduate will be rich. Get either certification, be diligent and think outside the box in anything you do and you will be successful.

Re: Hnd Or Bsc, Not A Factor For A Better Career. by Nobody: 10:30am On Jul 11, 2015
I am a Bsc holder. Now I wish I had an OND.

The cost of paying Bsc holders is making employers demand for ONF holders.

Garbage in garbage out.

Op both certs are overrated (my opinion) except some professional courses. it is just our society that has placed too much emphasis on a paper that is graded base on whether you are liked or not(in some cases).

four years ago, I had an offer for a football trial with a particular football coach from Morocco, I turned it down because I had gotten admission to study guess what? political science in the university. i wanted to be an educated footballer...I had hope that I will continue playing while schooling, just like I had watch other students do in some American College movies.
guess what? I have not kicked a ball in the last three years as I am either doing a book review or writing a term paper, I am doing one while typing this. that dream has been forgotten so also has so many others that have happened to creep in while in school. I will be graduating this year with a 2.2 and I don't know what i will do with it.

if somehow by chance I am taken back to the past, i won't even choose football....I will go to a photography school and become a wildlife photographer... I still see my 4 years in a Nigerian university as a waste of my previous time.
so when people talk about discrimination base on bsc/HND i laugh at them because even our GCFR has only a probable Waec cert and other professional certs..... so whatahell?

The world has gone beyond paper qualification. That said, if I am an employer, I would employ sumone who gets the job done and not sumone who has the paper qualification...
