Miss Tomisin Idowu, the 2014 Most Beautiful Girl in LASU (MBGN 2014) and her entourage embarked on a social service trip to clothe Makoko slum dwellers on Saturday July 18, 2015.
Men, Women and children trooped out to welcome the MBGLASU 2014 Queen and her entourage as they distributes used cloths, Sofy pads,, Sofy branded materials and other gift items to the people of Makoko .
The programme tagged “project clothe the slum” was powered by Downtown Promotion and supported by Sankin Idustries maker of Sofy sanitary pad and Lagos StateMinistry of Health.
In an interview with CAMPUSLIFE, Tomisin explained that the project was facilitated by downtown promotions and her manager.
“People in Makoko slum live below standard so we decided to clothe and present gifts to them. This is one of the best projects of the year. I am happy I’m giving back to the society. At first I was scared but when it got to a stage, I started having fun. The community needs help. We are the change Nigeria needs. It is time to focus more on people and reach out to them”, she stated.
The CEO Downtown Promotion, Mr. Ayorinde Abiodun (Effizy) told CAMPUSLIFE that it is mandatory for all beauty queens to embark on a project.
“It is our prerogative to ensure that the queen embarks on a project. The first project was a campaign against indecency and after that we discovered there are many slums in Lagos. Makoko community lacks so many things and we believe nobody should be deprived of the basic needs of life. We decided that many kids don’t have things to wear, the idea of donating cloths to them was well appreciated by the children of the community”, he submitted.
It was learnt that Sofy pads funded the project while friends and families donated used cloths and shoes. Abiodun, who further disclosed that plans are underway to visit other slums in Lagos implored wealthy Nigerians to render assistance to those in needs.
