Get a master's degree first.

Bachelors are a dime a dozen nowadays and masters are more coveted. Let me explain

1. Army, Police, Civil Defence etc will place you a rank higher than your peers with a bachelors degree

2. Large corporations reduce the years of experience required for entry if you have a masters

3. Other rule oriented organizations increase the max age for applicants with a masters

PLUS: You can always get certifications even whilst working while you can not do same with a masters.

Do both if you can i.e if you have the finance and time...however, if you don't have the time or finance for a master's degree, kindly go for the certification: by all means, get one of them to spice your CV(because we live in a certificated society).

Nigerians enroll for master or professional programme for several reasons among which are : to gain employment, promotion, pride, knowledge, to reverse under employment, added qualification etc. I am doing my masters (Msc) because am seeking employment (either as a lecturer in higher institution or as an administrator in a corporate firm). Considering my age and all I think becoming a lecturer won't be bad. I have an interest in teaching.

Masters doesn't make any difference in this country , professional certificate gives you a better chance cos you are regarded as a professional. Nowadays in Nigeria, masters degree can be gotten with money if you don't have the time to study.

Very possible.. u don't go through the rigours of ''course work'' for PhD, no semester by semester exam..it is mainly research.. and if u are in a science related field,u can just sit back and allow undergraduate students or masters student to be doing the lab work for u as long as u are dropping money and settling them(I have worked briefly for some old old PhD students in recent times)..so it's very possible for even a 70 years old person to do PhD..

well, i think for academic professions a masters would do while on administrative and some other disciplines a professional course should do.

I'll rather kill myself in other to become a chartered accountant than chill to have Msc. In Accounting.

My point is professional qualifications is more recognized in my field than Masters, so go for what sooths your career line smiley
Re: Having Masters Vs Having Professional Certifications by Nobody: 11:37pm On Jul 26, 2015
For medical doctors who want to be relevant in the profession, having a professional qualification will always do the magic. But MSc and PHD will be an added advantage for those who eye teaching jobs in the university. But even with your PhD if you don't have professional certificate your rise to the top will be somehow limited even in the classroom.

It all depends on your profession. For example, if you are an accountant the professional certificate is more important to you than the masters degree except you want to pick up a lecturing job.

A chartered accountant(ICAN) is preferable to a Masters degree holder in accounting. Trust me.
