Individual Efforts Can’t End Terrorism -Buhari by iwaeda: 12:09pm On Jul 30, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari has said efforts being made by individual countries are not capable of tackling terrorism.

He said Nigeria and neighbouring countries must come together and join forces if the dream of defeating Boko Haram terrorists in the sub-region must come to pass.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in a statement on Thursday quoted Buhari as speaking at a state dinner held in his honour at the Unity Palace in Yaounde, as part of activities lined up for his two-day working visit to Cameroon.

He further quoted the President as saying that countries in the sub-region cannot afford to falter in their resolve to get rid of the evils of terrorists.

“We recognise that none of us can succeed alone. In order to win this war, we need the collective efforts of each other, standing together as a formidable force for good, to defeat and end these acts of terror against our people,” the President reportedly said.

Adesina added that Buhari told guests at the dinner hosted by President Paul Biya that the security situation in the region presented an opportunity for Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin to work together for their common security, peace and socio-economic development.

” Let me assure all of my relentless pursuit of all possible means to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity, protect the lives and property of our citizens as well as my commitment to continue to collaborate with Cameroon and our neighbours, within the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

“The Federal government of Nigeria is committed to respecting international norms to resolve this matter and to restore normalcy to all the affected areas as soon as possible,” the President added.

The President, who had earlier on his arrival on Wednesday held a closed-door session with his host, thanked Biya for providing refuge to Nigerians who had fled their homes because of the insurgents.

He also commended Cameroon for its support to Nigerian military and security personnel in the fight against terrorism and offered his condolences to the families of the victims of terror in both countries.

He also announced Nigeria’s willingness to expand economic partnerships with Cameroon, through increased joint ventures in infrastructure development, transport and commerce, among others.

He welcomed the achievements so far recorded by the Nigeria-Cameroon Joint Commission and all the landmark agreements signed between both countries.

The President, who described the relationship between both countries as excellent, recognised the roles played by past and present leaders and Nigerian citizens in sustaining friendly relations with Cameroon.

In his remarks, Biya while congratulating Buhari on his successful inauguration into office, said his electoral victory has provided an opportunity for him to preside over the “destiny of Nigeria.”

“Mr President, a dark cloud is looming over our countries even as we welcome you; we are facing the same threat, which may rock the foundation of our two nations.

“This danger bears the name of Boko Haram, its atrocities and crimes are jeopardising peace around Lake Chad and especially in our two countries.

“The number of dead and victims are rising, economic activities have been crippled in affected areas, the number of refugees and displaced persons are ever increasing.

“We cannot allow this cancer to spread, we must pool our resources and forces and share our experiences,” he said.

Biya, who reaffirmed Cameroon’s commitment in the fight against terror, welcomed the “fresh push” on economic ties between both countries through easing of trade.

“I strongly believe in your readiness to work towards that goal and your visit to Cameroon as well as the discussions we have had, have strengthened my conviction,” he said.

This is what we expected from ACN turned APC, but instead we see campaign of calumny against the Nigerian Army and the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.

Terrorism worldwide is fought collectively.

APC why did you play dirty politics with the lives of Nigerians?

APC why did you play dirty politics with the lives of Nigerians?

It was PDP and GEJ that first reduced the issue of terrorism and insecurity to politics by accusing APC of being responsible for BH; that was insane and irresponsible.

Meanwhile regarding GEJ's visit to Chad, you guys should stop getting it twisted as if you don't what the real issue was. The real issue in that picture you posted is that GEJ visited Chad for a security meeting with Alli Modu Sherrif, a man who is known to have links with BH and this thoughtless move was done just about a week after the Australian guy refreshed the minds of Nigerians about Sheriff's involvements. Taking Sheriff along was the reason behind the uproar by sensible Nigerians.

but what is the difference now?

There is a clear difference between leaving your fight for your neighbours and asking your neighbours' cooperation in blocking their borders to prevent easy passage for terrorists (personnel and supplies). The difference is that in the past, Chadian soldiers marched into Nigerian soil and were helping us liberate towns seized by terrorists. The difference is a simple case to understand, but I don't expect you to for obvious reasons.

It was easy for Buhari to criticize GEJ back then. The funny thing was all the moves that GEJ made back then and received a backlash for were same moves Buhari is making.

If truly Buhari is a man of integrity has been portrayed to Nigerians I think he own GEJ an apology .

That is not what he promised us. He didn't ask for my help or the help of Nigerians when he was campaigning.
