What's the significance of the pouring of water? I have a video from 2013 ... they kept pouring water on the ground till Obatala's house

Ile Olorisa and Obameri compound hold the festival the same day with each compound re-enacting the opposites given the 'enmity' between them.

Ile Olorisa re-enact the leadership of Obatala in Ife, Oduduwa's arrival and claim to seniority thanks to alliances with other figures like Obameri, Obatala's exile to ile Ugbo (I think its present location is an extension of Mokuro from what I was told earlier today) and finally his triumphant return after a delegation of figures like Oramfe, Orunmila etc have gone to appease him to return during which water was poured on the floor for him to walk on back into Ife and stops at the palace gate

At Obameri's compound, they do their thing butthey mostly celebrate Obameri's victory and Obatala's exile during which Obameri poured palm wine on the floor behind Obatala as he was escorted out of the town.

On the side, I think from actual historical account, this is why Obatala, his brothers (Ijugbe, Oluorogbo, Orisaikire all making up the 'Isoro') and their descendants/devotees do not drink or touch palm wine. This is to state the Obatala getting drunk was actually the mythical side of it.

Beautiful, although I wasn't able to read all of it properly due to the writing format

So Oreorelu is Obatala after all?. Susanne Blier in her works made me believe that Oreorelu was a hunter, ruling Ife before obatala

I think you meant Oreluere/Ereluere not Ore Or'elu.

It is chanted in Ife dialect, I'm sorry you couldn't read it properly.

On the side, why aren't you on the Yoruba commonwealth thread.

You and Folykaze; I wonder why?

There is nothing I can add to the thread. As in everything inputed by contributors and I think is quite educative.

I bookmark and only read from the thread only on sundays. By sunday, the thread could have jumped by 60 Pages but I still read through it.

And I dey dash likes lol

Oh well, you're a brilliant person sir. I'm sure the contributors haven't said it all and there are inputs you could possibly add, even from your home state to help better the the growth of the integration the thread envisages.

Oya come and add comment make we sef dash likes.

Thank you Sir.

Your post about the efin/finfin is correct but I should add that the use of these white spots vary by the deity & practice.
I'm
For example, the Araba (Ifa Chief priest), during (world) Odun Ifa at Ife wears the white thing all over. The historical context there is that the Araba/Orunmila at a point transformed into a leopard to go see the King - there is a historical account to this.
