Press statement on the utterances of the immediate past Chief of Defense Staff Alex Badeh
We received with utmost dismay the recent utterances attributed to the immediate past Chief of Defense staff Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh that the Nigerian military was ill equipped and ill funded to prosecute the war against the boko haram insurgents. It is also worrisome and unfortunate that he openly admitted that military officers were providing information to the insurgents which made matters worse. All this happened while he held sway as the Chief of Defense Staff. It is also worthy to note that he and his cohorts vehemently denied these allegations which were levied against him by the Nigerian populace at that time and to which he has now shamelessly admitted.
We of the Society for Patriotic Leadership and Unity in Nigeria wish to state as follows:
1. That the Nigerian military lost its integrity under the watch of Alex Badeh due to lack of enthusiasm and zeal which were hitherto the pride of the military.
2. That Nigerian Soldiers who cried foul and told the world that they lacked the necessary military equipment to prosecute the war were unjustly charged for mutiny for speaking the truth to which Alex Badeh now admits.
3. That Alex Badeh and his cohorts were bent on destroying the military and as such were sending soldiers to the battle field without equipment so that they will continue to be massacred by the enemy. In order words, he was sending them on a suicide mission against their will.
4. That after receiving One Trillion Naira annually and an additional one billion US dollars supplementary provision for procurement of military equipment, the military was still ill equipped.
5. That Alex Badeh has indicted himself and the past administration for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
We therefore emphasize that after losing more than fifteen thousand (15,000) Nigerian lives, after the destruction of property of Nigerians worth billions of Naira and after rendering more than One Million, Five Hundred Thousand (1,500,000) Nigerians homeless and Internally Displaced as a result of the callousness, selfishness, greed and arrogance of a few unpatriotic Nigerians, the best thing in the interest of the nation is to arrest and charge Alex Badeh and his accomplices or cohorts with crimes against humanity.
We are willing to continue to gather more evidence against Alex Badeh in order to petition him and his collaborators to the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague for crimes against humanity.
In conclusion, we call on all well meaning Nigerians to continue to work together in order to ensure that justice prevails and impunity is destroyed in our great nation Nigeria.
Thank you.
