After driving a pretty short distance from work to the house, at the gate noticed oil on d ground after parking, same thing happened. Left it till I got d leak traced and fixed but now sound of the car has changed and the check engine light is now on pls any advice car is 01 volvo xc70. |

Lol @sienna......very funny was chased by nobody Like every other day just driven a short distance... noticed oil leaking after parking checked d dipstick it was empty, now after fixing d leak filled with total quartz engine oil then noticed a sharp change in engine sound and check engine light came on... |

dannydevito: Running an engine dry causes damage to the bearings, crankshafts and camshafts and other movable parts. You will need an engine rebuild. Engine rebuild and labour might be same price with replacing new engine. If in lagos contact me. 08023251039 |

If Gazzuzz is right then you have three options. 1. Do a rebuild or buy a new one as he suggested if you are uncomfortable with the rattle. 2. Try using a heavier oil like a 10w or 20w to see if the noise goes away. 3. Drive it till it quits if the rattle doesn't really bother you and then buy a new engine since the cost of a rebuild is almost same as a new engine. |

Thanks alot everyone ...siena gazzuz u guys did well.....a couple of factors caused d noise missed timing and wrong oil grade now got all that fixed ...timing set correct oil spec the engine roared like before and very quiet too..... |

Total quartz 20w 50 but now used a 5w40 variant full synthetic |

dannydevito: I'm 100per sure you are not telling us what really happened. A change from 20W50 to 5W40 would have little or no effect on the noise you were hearing. How did changing a seal disrupt your original timing settings? Well happy your car is running fine but as I said your story is incomplete. |

Gazzuzz seriously all I said was what happened... I called u myself too........maybe d oil had no effect but from my judgement it changed something but for d knocking sound it was more from the missed timing.....win or lose I didnt drive the engine dry for long during the leak....mind u ur advice of a new engine made me decide to just do this and satisfy my curiosity.....u help me tooo like u said vovlo enginrs are built to last long......... |
