Amosun Sacks Permsec, 5 Others Over ‘offensive’ Exam Question by bunmioguns(m): 12:35am On Aug 13, 2015
ABEOKUTA — Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, yesterday ordered the sack of six officials of the Ministry of Education, including an acting Permanent Secretary, Mrs Folashade Oresegun, three directors and an examiner over an ‘offensive’ Senior School English language summary passage.

An examiner, Adegbenro Joel had prepared English language exams questions for the third term academic session of the state’s Unified Examination in Public Secondary Schools, which had a summary passage that took a critical look at the alleged negligence of the education sector by the government.
The governor reportedly got infuriated over the development and allegedly ordered the sack of the officials of the ministry that were directly in charge of the examination.

Those affected were; an acting Permanent Secretary, who was a level 17 officer, Folashade Oresegun; Director of curriculum, Mr. Ganiu Odunsi and a deputy director, curriculum and evaluation simply identified as Mr Majekodunmi.
Others were; the examiner who also taught at Mayflower School, two desk officers whose identity were not known as at press time.
Vanguard gathered that, Oresegun and Odunsi’s sack was converted to compulsory retirement while the four others were summarily dismissed.
Vanguard however, obtained the question paper with the ‘offensive passage’ which in essence examined the situation of the sector in the country.
The passage read; “There is no arguing about the fact that the government is merely paying lip service to the development of the education. It is true that a lot of money is being spent on education sector but, with little or no impact felt by the people, except where we want to deceive ourselves.
“Many schools run by the government, which were formerly known for academic excellence have suddenly lost their prestige and are living on past glory. No wonder many parents and guardians are left with only one option, to withdraw their wards from these schools to other ones that are better managed.”
When asked to comment on the development, the Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa told Vanguard on phone that he could not.
Adeoluwa said; “The issue is a civil service matter. The best person to comment is the Head of Service. Please call Head of Service”.
While confirming the sack, Adeoluwa said, “I heard it yesterday the way you did and I asked them what happened. It is a civil service matter, and I cannot react to it.”
Attempts to get a reaction from the Head of Service was however unsuccessful as she did not pick her call nor respond to the text message sent to her mobile phone.

Say the obvious truth, they will fight you yet they claim to be progressive but will never take healthy criticism. They did and are still doing so to a particular judge in Osun State.

This clown that wears his funny cap the funniest way possible. . The effected officers should go to court. You just can't wake up and start sacking civil servants because your bigv ego has been bruised by some exam questions.

Omisore was the reason PDP lost Osun state. Aregbosola was already vulnerable. All they needed to do was to present a very formidable character instead of that corn eating, uninspiring character. . FFK? You want some noise?

What Rubbish! Are we in a military Regime? The sack must immediately be revert. We need a fresh and intelligent party...... obviously not PDP to start preparing to come out as an option in 2019.

Sacking to me is extreme may be a suspension would have been more civil. The truth to me is that a lot about the rules of the civil service are not known to folks outside of the service. I know something called" Anti-Establishment" The white man made it a serious issue "Criticizing" a government for which you work. So it's either you are most "Sure" with basic facts and figures of what you are saying( and their are channels to air them) or you resign from the service and be as free as a bird to air your views. It's sad and I mean SAD but it's like Mutiny in the military. It's. Hard to win such a fight. The government may feel antagonized or having the citizens especially kids incited against it through that exam.

Stuppid governor / govt. They can't handle criticism. Besides this was culled from someone's work so why take it P? The guilty cry when no-one pursues. This is not the progressives we yearned for.

Height of dictatorship. And his name wasn't even mentioned in the piece.

The passage was written in bad faith, but Amosu is killing a mere fly with an AK47

Sometimes you think Yorubas are better off on their own without Nigeria then you see politicians like this guy, OYO governor and aregbesola getting elected by a self proclaimed 'well educated and exposed' people. Beggars believe. Are there any SW governors that takes education seriously? The Waec results is bad enough to alarm any sane governors. SE and SS literally wiped the floor in waec performance

Imagine how mundane a government can be,this just show the level of exposure our so called politician can be,and where is it written that you can just sack a staff just because the point of view is different from yours, may God save us from this people

Amosun really disappointed me on this issue. This is way too petty for a governor to act on. I thought there are other serious issues bedeviling the state than oCcupying himself with pettiness. Ordinary Head of Civil service should have just queried these guys and warn them, sacking is way too extreme in my opinion. Let's encourage openness in government, we are progressives and should be seen to play so.

PDP will be back sooner than u tot. We need PDP to purge itself, learn from what happened and reform. PDP remains a truly national party that is pro business! It is only in nigeria that a party is expected to die after losing election. Smh! to be taken seriously, a party must retain its identity not like the confused bunch called APC that changes name every election. PDP defines our democratic culture till date.

Amosun behaved foolishly , and this is a pointer to his guilt concerning the question. He must reverse that dismissal at once. If not those dismissed or sack should approach the court immediately.
