Rehabilitation In Nigeria Sometimes Is An Ambiguous Word. by nyol: 11:49pm On Aug 15, 2015
Sometimes ago, I discovered the government of Oyo state did add asphaltic layer (overnight) to the town section of the federal road A1 that ran through Ogbomoso town. A lecturer evidently commended him that its a public oriented policy. However, I came around less than a year and saw that some sections have been worse than before. My observation was that points where heavy duty trailers slow down turned out to be the most affected region. This simply shows that our roads are currently over burdened by design. However a good rehabilitation work by Mr. Governor did not yield a good result at the long run.
My little journey through the northern axis is in a very bad state especially some pats of Niger state. However what of Eastern roads that are washed away by erosion. embarassed
Do we continue to add asphalt and get an uneven surface of road . Or we repair and erosion washes away what we've done Or we don't see the influence of FERMA in some part of the country at all
I really hope our lawmakers while calling for rehabilitation, also look into underlying factors that will not make their efforts look futile.

Members of the House of Representatives have called for the immediate rehabilitation of federal roads across the country.

The Lawmakers entertained complaints as some motion were brought to the House during plenary on Thursday 13th, August 2015 by members who expressed dissatisfaction on the current condition of federal roads.

Hon. Igariwey Iduma Enwo representing Afikpo North/South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State was the first to move the motion, exposing that the Abakaliki/Afikpo road linking Ebonyi to neighboring States is seriously in need of rehabilitation.

He said that the road has suffered years of neglect and has remained in a bad condition to the discomfort of its users. He prayed the House to interface with the Federal Ministry of Works in order to ensure that the road is repaired.

In a related development, Hon. Shehu Saleh of Rijau/Magama Federal Constituency of Niger State mooted the need for the completion of the reconstruction being carried out on Kontagora-Rijau-Tungun Magajiya road.

He asserted that the road is of great economic and social value to both the people of Niger and Kebbi States. He prayed the House to urge the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to adopt an interim measure to rehabilitate the road and once again make it easily accessible.

Similarly, Hon. Rita Orji, representing Ajeromi/Ifelodun1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State has called the attention of the House to the need to refurbish the Ojora-Ajegunle-Apapa Federal Highway. She pointed out that the highway is a major supply route to the Tin-Can port, which she stressed is strategic to the nation’s economy. She appealed to the House to urge the Federal Ministry of Works and FERMA to urgently embark on the restoration of the highway as well as the reactivation of the street lights.
