In ancient times, our forefathers were not just juju worshippers but had a way of acknowledging the existence of a supreme Being. Even as backward as the white man would always paint us to be,we had a form of government before they introduced to us their western culture which seems to have overtaken and is threatening our core values. In the ancient times the Ibos would always make reference to "Chi" as God, believing that there was always a personal communion with a supreme Being some where watching us. And if you call on your "Chi" then you get His attention. The Ibo would always say,"onye kwe,Chi e ekwe". Meaning if you will then your God will permit. But alas, the white man came as usual with his western religion and culture to ultimately erase our core beliefs and values by introduction of Christianity, white wedding,English names, speech pattern, behavioral pattern and lots more. Trust my people who would sheepishly follow every rule of the white man because some roots have been lost as some people of African origin now answer names such as "Victor Micheal, Susan Patrick and so on. The colonial masters brought a holy book which condemned same sex marriage. The same colonial masters have now deemed it ok for Adam to marry Adam and for Eve to marry Eve. Wouldn't it be logical for them to also bring us an updated version of the holy book which permits same sex marriage? Where does this audacious behaviour of the white man derive?Technology and stupefying inventions? Who is really this Western God? 1 Like |

Bro i think you need more study about IGBO traditional religion and the pantheon... According to the IGBO religion.. CHUKWU is the supreme being, uncomprehendible, unknowable, cannot be fathomed, all powerful, all knowing and created the universe, in short seen as an embodiment of the universe... it is too powerful and big that it has no priest or shrine, it is just too big and powerful... Anyanwu (sun) is the manifestation of CHUKWU. then Chukwu has many minor deities that pay homage to him and interact with man (chukwu was too big a deity to interact with anybody)... which are mostly personifications of nature and ideas. that is where you get the deities Igwekala (amadioha) ...God of thunder ala ... God of land ekwensu... God of trade, tricks, mischief and wisdom fijioku... God of yam and many other minor deities both in masculine and feminine projection. then CHI is in form a personal deity exclusive to every individual.. every chi is different according the individual.. its some kind of guardian deity to every person.. The igbo pantheon is very vast and colourful, beautiful and constructive myths and very good for any igbo to know 3 Likes 1 Share |

johnydon22:Brother, we are saying the same thing. I only summarised by going straight to the point of individual worship style of ancient times which all lead to the same source . I read Ibo philosophy as a course in Uni, so I know what I am saying. 1 Like |
