Pls, I want to know if it is appropriate to change from Total 9000 5W40 used in servicing my Nissan Primera for the past one year to any 5w30 engine oil variant? The manual says 7. 5w30 is preferable for warm and cold areas for ambient temperatures above -2'C (-4'F). For hot areas: 20W-40 and 20W-50 are suitable. Pls can someone advise and explain these recommendations for me.

Does the 15k miles theory work here? What vehicle are you using it for? The other Mobil 1 in his collection is very ideal. Gazz, is there castrol edge in your collection?

Yes the 15k miles works everywhere but I don't push it that far and it must be with mobil 1 extended performance oil filter.Use it for honda accord 94-2002

Not at all. As long as the brand is credible (the most preferred brands are Toyota and Mobil-1). By the way, did you use the American Spec oil?

The American Spec seems to have very good effects on the engine and even provides for quicker acceleration and enhanced fuel economy. I have used it previously so i know.

The differences in oil at times is just in the brand name and price. Most of their additive packs and physical properties are very close. ( see attached files )

Just buy what you can afford. As for me, i definitely know and feel the difference when a top quality oil is in the engine. The acceleration, fuel economy and quietness of the engine is something to experience. Mobil-1 and Toyota gives me that cutting edge.

You just put it nicely. Mobil-1 and Toyota are about the best oils you can buy. Its just not always available. They are excellent oils

Seems the price for the imported Mobil-1 and Toyota Oil has gone up. Not so easy to find outside Lagos. The cheapest i have seen is from AutoTrader2 who seems to have it in large quantities, and so can afford to place the price low enough to attract buyers. What price did you recently buy and where?

Please don't pay attention to the posters. Mobil1 USA is not the same as the excuse of the Mobil1 in Nigeria and will never be. The USA brand is ilsac gf 5. Dexos certified, while the local is not certified at least not displayed on the gallon. I remember that the USA brand was sold in the country for 4400 naira a litre. They are the ones that can withstand the high temperatures we daily face in our various choices of cars. There are many substandard 5w30 in the country right now so beware how you choose.

So Mobil1 synthetic oil sold in there filling stations re substandard? Please note that its not produced in Nigeria. For the fact that a Toyota is not produced in Japan does not imply its inferior. A big brand like Mobil will definitely have production standard as they re aware of the implications if compromised. Its just a Nigerian mentality that everything that is made in the USA supersedes its same counterparts produced outside the US.
