HOW TO IDENTIFY FAKE WEBSITES AND FRAUDULENT ONLINE COMPANIES! by oloyetomoye: 6:04pm On Aug 24, 2015
The world, no doubt has become a global village through the internet. Also, online activities have become a phenomenon with many fake websites and fraudulent online companies springing up daily, offering products and services at exceptionally low costs. However, a little caution can be taken in order to safe-guard yourself from falling prey to such fraudulent websites by ensuring you check the websites for the following:

NO HOME PAGE
Most fake websites do not have “Home” page that welcomes the customer with menu to guide the visitors. It’s mostly run by one individual with an intention to defraud any unsuspecting visitor.

NO “ABOUT PAGE”
Most fake websites only have generic and very appealing statements about their offers without disclosing any information about the company, its owner(s), management, location or the year of establishment.
It's obvious as they have no formal registration or existence as a company and only own a website; hence they have nothing to share about the company, working staff or official address but only personal mobile phone numbers are listed on websites.

NO “CONTACT PAGE”
Most of these fake websites only post mobile numbers or email id and contact us form without any company address.
They do not display their exact location, as they actually don't exist and we all know mobile number can easily be changed or switched-off and then you have no way to find the person running the fake online website.
They use free email accounts without formal email signature. Anyone running an online business without official email account with its website domain name (e.g me@mycompany.com), may be using the free email accounts to hide his/her real identity.
Any online business communication or service commitment given via free email ID like yahoo.com, gmail.com etc without verifiable contact address should be dealt with cautiously.

NO “CLIENT LIST” or Only “TOP BRAND NAMES ARE LISTED AS CLIENTS!
It's very logical that any genuine company has verifiable clientele and for them, quality of service matters more than profits. But, most fake websites do not have their clients/customers listed on their websites or may post irrelevant top brand names as clients to give a big impression which is misguiding to visitors.

OFFERING EXCEPTIONALLY LOW PRICES
Most fake websites offer their products and services at very ridiculous prices.
So be careful if you only select websites based on unreasonably low offers. It may be a trap.

UNVERIFIABLE "TRUSTED" ENDORSEMENT SIGNS
They usually put popular “trusted” or “positive” signs and stamps on these websites in order to mislead their victims.

ASK YOU TO PAY IMMEDIATELY
All fraudulent websites will always want you to make payment into some “not-so-easy-to-trace” accounts through most popular e-payment platforms in a hurry. Most of them do not use local Bank Accounts for such fraudulent activities.

With the above mentioned points, Nigerians can safeguard themselves when dealing with anyone online.

You can add your points for all to learn.
Thank you.
