Congress For Democratic Change (C.D.C) Launches in Cross River State amidst fanfare.

A brief History of the CDC - The Congress for Democratic Change(CDC) is the first youth oriented political party in Nigeria. The party was formed basically to champion the cause and course of the Nigerian youth and for the political emancipation of the Nigerian youths through active participation and involvement in politics.

The party came into existence as a result of the decision by the Association of Youth Organizations of Nigeria (AYON) to transform into a political party. The Association of Youth Organizations of Nigeria (AYON) is an umbrella body of over 363 youth organisations in Nigeria. AYON has been in existence since 1998 has has played major roles in Nigeria's democratic Process.

The formation of the party was necessitated by the need to provide a platform for the Nigerian youths who form a greater percentage of the Nigerian political/voting population to canvass for elective posts since none of the existing parties served the interests of the youths.

AYON,at its 42nd National Executice Committee (NEC) Meeting had earlier adopted the name "National Youth Party of Nigeria" NYPN,a name with which it applied for registration as a political party. But in other to make the party more accomodating and also involve other Nigerians who are willing to champion the cause of the Nigerian youth, irrespective of their age,gender,ethnic group or religion, AYON in its 43rd NEC meeting decided to adopt the name Congress for Democratic Change,CDC. The party was registerd by the Independent National Electoral Commission on 20th July 2006.
