A former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, has denied the allegations of corruption levelled against him by a Port Harcourt-based group, The Integrity Group.

The group had petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), demanding that Amaechi administration be probed for massive corruption.

But Amaechi whose response was signed by George Feyii and Chamberlin Peterside who were his former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Commissioner for Finance respectively, said the group twisted and misrepresented facts in a manner designed to serve an ill-conceived purpose of maligning Amaechi’s integrity and administration.

Arguing that he was responding in line with the tradition of transparency and good governance that was the hallmark of his administration, Amaechi said there was no iota of truth in the allegations against him.

He said on the alleged fraudulent sale of the state’s power assets, the decision to sell the assets was reached after an extensive State Executive Council (SEC) meeting on August 16, 2012.

The former governor disclosed that at the meeting, it was agreed that the state government did not have the requisite manpower to manage the facilities.

He also said it was agreed among other reasons that the assets needed to be leased/concessioned to augment the revenue of the state based on the dwindling allocation from the Federation Account.

On the sale of Olympia Hotel and others, Amaechi said they were not sold as being peddled but leased/concessioned and that at the end of the lease/concession period, the assets would revert to the state government.
