Ten years ago, these were the scenes of destruction which rules in New Orleans, a ravaged city devastated by the most damaging storm in U.S. history.

More than 1,500 people were killed, 80 per cent of the city was left under water and some 130,000 were displaced - some of whom have still not returned.

New Orleans, as well as the other Gulf Coast settlements equally ravaged by Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005, have largely rebounded from the suffering of a decade past.
