Liverpool have announced the signing of 18-year-old Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
The striker arrives from Nigerian club Imperial Academy, but won’t be playing for Liverpool this season: he’s being immediately sent out on loan to Frankurt, who are currently in 2 Bundesliga.
This is becoming a bit of a tradition at Liverpool; having signed Divock Origi after the 2014 World Cup, they loaned the Belgian striker back to Lille for another year.
In the case of Nigeria U20 international Awoniyi, it does appear to make perfect sense, as the Premier League is a world away from the level he’s been playing at in Nigeria.
According to the Echo, Awoniyi has been signed for an initial fee of around £800,000 which could eventually rise to £3m once add-ons and bonuses are accounted for
