The biggest celebrity football showdown ever lived up to its promise on Saturday, as some of the biggest names in the Nigerian entertainment industry treated fans to exciting duels at the Four Points by Sheraton, Lagos.

9ice, Reminisce, Timi Dakolo, Frank Edoho, Fred Amata, Illbliss, Segun Arinze and ID Cabasa locked horns in the name of their respective football clubs on an unforgettable night.

The action kicked off with an exciting clash between Chelsea fan 9ice and Arsenal fan Illbliss. 9ice defeated Illbliss thanks to verdicts handed out by a panel of judges led by ex- Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje. They both participated in tasks
that included singing, dancing, match commentaries and exciting debates. 9ice shocked the audience and judges with his impressive and broad knowledge of football history and eventually bagged two awards- The Superfan award and the award for creativity, both powered by Merrybet.

Timi Dakolo and Frank Edoho were next, in what was the tightest and most fiercely contested match. Frank Edoho, who is a Chelsea fan, gave Timi Dakolo- an Arsenal fan a run for his money, as they both showed depth in football knowledge and extreme passion. Timi Dakolo’s breathtaking rendition of the Arsenal club anthem however, gave him the edge as he defeated Frank.

Timi eventually also won the Backseat Manager award, powered by Merrybet, for his outstanding knowledge of the beautiful game.

Nollywood stars Segun Arinze and Fred Amata locked horns next for Chelsea and Arsenal respectively, in another evenly matched duel. Segun Arinze, not deterred by the defeat his club had suffered earlier in the day, was quite impressive in his play on words and overall creativity and defeated Fred Amata.

The final showdown of the night was between Reminisce and ID Cabasa for Manchester United and Chelsea respectively. Reminisce provided the moment of the night, when he sang the Manchester United anthem- ‘Glory Glory Man United’ in Yoruba language. The venue erupted in appreciation of his creativity.

ID Cabasa edged the debates, but Reminisce’s creative performances gave him the edge as he defeated his opponent.

The host- Kiibati Bankole, kitted in a refereeing outfit (complete with her yellow, red cards and whistle) played the role of the match referee.

The winning celebrities were awarded match trophies and prizes from SLOT and Merrybet.

It was a night the fans and celebrities will not forget in a hurry, as they were treated to musical and comedy performances and great fun all round. I ran into a couple of my own guys who are hardcore sports fans too: Ayourb, Lanre Neville, Emma Dele and of course Yvonne Onyemekwu.

Now, what happened at Celebrity Fans Challenge 2015 will probably stay at Celebrity Fans Challenge 2015, or maybe you could see it on TV, but one favour I’ll ask you to do for yourself, is watch out for the next edition of this unique event early next year!
