Scholarship Description
The MasterCard Foundation has partnered with Michigan State University USA to provide full tuition scholarships to undergraduate and master’s students from Sub-Saharan Africa.

The university will receive $45 million in funding from the foundation to support 185 scholars throughout the nine-year program, which includes 100 four-year undergraduates and 85 master’s degree students. MSU will host the most scholars among the six U.S. partner institutions.

Students who have demonstrated academic talent, are economically disadvantaged and have a personal commitment to give back to their countries are invited to apply for these scholarships.

Through financial, academic, social and post-graduation support, The Scholars Program will ensure that young people are equipped with the skills and competencies needed to spur economic growth and social development in their respective countries of origin.

MasterCard Foundation Scholarships at Michigan State University USA

Eligibility
The program is open to residents and citizens of Sub-Saharan African countries. Students must be first-time applicants to MSU. Transfer students are not eligible for the program.

Strong academic performance to date in secondary school suggesting continued academic success as an undergraduate student.

Duration of award(s): Clarendon Scholarships are offered for the full period that you are liable to pay tuition fees to the University, which is usually the same as the length of your course. The fee liability page of the Fees and Funding website explains this in full detail, and also gives information about charges that may be applied after the standard period of fee liability has been reached and which are not covered by the Clarendon Fund.

What does it cover? All Clarendon Scholarships cover tuition and college fees in full. Scholars on a full-time course receive a generous annual grant for living costs, which is normally sufficient to cover the living costs of a single student living in Oxford. In 2015-16 this is £14,057 (GBP). Scholars on a part-time course receive a study support grant to help cover their non-fee costs.

Selection Criteria: Clarendon Scholarships are awarded on the basis of outstanding academic merit and potential to graduate students from all around the world. Selection criteria vary slightly depending on the subject area and whether applicants apply for a taught or research degree. Generally, applications are assessed against the following criteria:
-An excellent academic record is essential: A high first class honours degree or its equivalent (a GPA score of at least 3.7 if the mark is out of 4,noting that most successful candidates achieve a score higher than 3.7) or an outstanding academic record at Master’s level is necessary (noting that an outstanding Master’s degree can compensate for a moderate first degree performance). Other indicators of high academic achievement may include individual marks on student transcripts; evidence of previous university prizes or awards; information on your overall position within your cohort; and publications (if applicable).
-Aptitude for the proposed course of study: This may be assessed by reviewing academic references, the research proposal, demonstrated evidence of aptitude for research, and the likelihood the scholar will contribute significantly to their field of study.
-Student motivation: This is assessed through evidence of the applicant’s commitment to their proposed course, evaluated by the personal statement and referees’ reports.

Scholarship Description: The University of Cambridge will offer, via the Cambridge Trusts, approximately 80 Cambridge International Scholarships to Overseas Students who embark on a research course in the next academical year. The awards will be made on a competitive basis to those applicants considered by their departments to be the most outstanding.

Number of award(s): The University of Cambridge will offer via the Cambridge Trusts, approximately 80 Cambridge International Scholarships.

Duration of award(s): The length of the scholarship is for the tenure of the PhD, whether three or four years (as determined by the length of the PhD).

What does it cover? In the case of some selected candidates, the Trust will subsequently identify partner organizations willing to provide part of the cost of the scholarships, but the Trust will meet the balance, and where necessary the whole costs, of these awards. The scholarship will pay the University composition fee and an annual living allowance for a single person.

Selection Criteria: Scholars are chosen by a selection panel including representatives from each of the six academic Schools within the University. The only factors taken into consideration are academic ability and research potential, examination results, and references. The financial situation of applicants does not affect the selection of scholars.

Notification: In March, all the nominated candidates with a conditional offer of admission will be considered by a selection committee comprising academic members of the Student Registry. The committee will draw up a list of candidates who will be made an offer of a CISS award immediately. A reserve list of candidates will also be drawn up who may receive a CISS award should any become available. These candidates will receive a confirmatory email. Several hundred partially funded awards will also be made by the Cambridge Trusts to candidates unsuccessful in obtaining a full cost CISS award.

How to Apply: In order to be eligible for a CISS award commencing in the next academical year, you must have applied for admission/continuation as a graduate student to the University of Cambridge either online (admission students only) or via the Graduate Admission and Scholarship Application Form (GRADSAF). It is important that you send in your supporting documentation as soon as possible after you have applied for admission online, because your application will not be looked at until this is received. The closing date for this funding is firm – no late applications can be considered.

The Commonwealth Medical Fellowships (Enhancing Clinical Skills) are offered for mid-career medical and dental staff from developing Commonwealth countries.

These fellowships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), with the aim of contributing to the UK’s international development aims and wider overseas interests, supporting excellence in UK higher education, and sustaining the principles of the Commonwealth.

Each year, the CSC invites selected nominating bodies to submit a specific number of nominations. The deadline for nominating bodies to submit nominations to the CSC is 17 December 2015.
The CSC invites around three times more nominations than fellowships available – therefore, nominated candidates are not guaranteed to be awarded a fellowship.
Each nominated candidate’s application is first considered by a member of the CSC’s panel of advisers with expertise in the subject area concerned, and then by the CSC’s selection committee in competition with other candidates.

Scholarship benefits
Each fellowship provides:
Approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of your award (the CSC will not reimburse the cost of fares for dependants, nor usually the cost of journeys made before your award is finally confirmed
Research support grant, payable to your host university hospital
Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £1,580 per month, or £1,959 per month for those at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at 2015-2016 levels)
Reimbursement of the fee for a single English language test and the fee for General Medical Council (GMC)/General Dental Council (GDC) registration
Arrival allowance
Study travel grant towards the costs of approved travel within the UK or overseas
If you are widowed, divorced, or a single parent, child allowance of £444 per month for the first child, and £109 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16, if you are accompanied by your children and solely legally responsible for them. The level of financial support provided through family allowances is under review and subject to change in both eligibility and rate
Method of Application
You must apply to a nominating body in the first instance – the CSC does not accept direct applications for these fellowships:
Selected universities/medical colleges/university bodies are invited to nominate members of staff at affiliated hospitals.
All applications must be made through your nominating body in your home country. Each nominating body is responsible for its own selection process. You must check with your nominating body for their specific advice and rules for applying, and for their own closing date for applications.
You must make your application using the CSC’s Electronic Application System (EAS).

When you hear about France, all that comes your mind is, Paris, the expensive city and all the assumptions about the country is that everything in it is expensive. Yea, well, the truth about it is, the standard of living is on the high side compared to some other countries. Yea well *rollseyes*, do you expect less from a beautiful country of love?
