NUMBER BASE

A number base is a figure that shows the "level" of a number. It is similar to a rank awarded to a person to grade the person.
So, just like people have different ranks, numbers also have different bases.

For jamb maths, students are expected to be familiar with number bases ranging from 2 to 10, and be able to carry out operations with each and every one of them.

BASE 10 NUMBERS (also known as decimal numbers); This is the most commonly used of all the bases. The numbers we use everyday are in base 10..

how far? How's preparations going?

All of you disappeared. plus i figured that i cant do number base additions and subtractions here, unless i solve in a sheet, capture it, and post. But some of you won't be able to view it.
So I can only explain. So, i implore everyone who doesnt already know the topic to go and read up on it.
Then post any question not understoood.

The problem with these kinds of online classes is that they hardly survive the test of time. It wanes off with time.

You guys had better come out from hibernation.

1. Each exterior angle of a regular polygon is 30°. Calculate the sum of the interior angles

2. The probability of an event P happening is 1/5 and that of event Q is 1/4. If the events are independent, what is the probability that neither of them happens?

3. Find the number of terms in the sequence 2, -9, -20, . . ., -141

4. The area of a sector of a circle of diameter 12cm is 66cm². If the sector is folded to form a cone, calculate the radius of the base of the cone.

5. A box contains 13 currency notes all of which are either #50 or #20 notes. The total value of the currency notes is #530. How many #50 notes are in the box?

PQRS is a parallelogram. The distance between PS and QR is 14cm and PS = 25cm. If PQ = 17.5cm, find the distance between PQ and SR.

Mathfero pls help solve this.

Total amt of money=#530
Let the number of #50 notes = x
Then the number of #20 notes will be equal to (13-x)
here is the equation;

50x + 20(13-x)= 530
50x + 260 -20x= 530
30x=270
x=9
•°• there nine(9) #50 notes in the box

and there are four(4) #20 notes in d box i.e (13-9)

I kinda disagree with this because if u look closely at d question,it says the events are independent meaning they can happen at the same time without interfering with each other....

It then would be:
1-(1/5 × 1/4)
1-(1/20)
= 19/20

u should not add them....

Hey I might b wrong though..

we are all here to learn

1 - (1/5 + 1/4)

for independent event under probability, it deals with multiplication. The answer should be :
not P=1-1/5 = 4/5. not Q =3/4. Then , 4/5 * 3/4 = 3/5.

Re: Nairaland 2016 Jamb Tutorial Classroon [mathematics Thread] by mathefaro(m): 7:41pm On Oct 10, 2015
I don't want to say anybody is wrong but this is actually the solution to the question
mathefaro:

2. The probability of an event P happening is 1/5 and that of event Q is 1/4. If the events are independent, what is the probability that neither of them happens?
P = 1/5 therefore P' = 1 - 1/5 = 4/5
Q = 1/4 therefore Q' = 1 - 1/4 = 3/4
The probability that neither of the events happens = P' and Q' ( P doesn't happen and Q doesn't occur) and we all know that the word "and" in probability begets "multiplication" of the probability of the events involved.
Therefore,
p(neither events) = P' * Q'
= 4/5 * 3/4
= 3/5

ciao

Actually, it's Mathefaro, I didn't get the mention. And back to the question, it's kinda vague. Since the diagram was not provided, information on the parallel sides should have been given...
My thoughts anyway. I'll see if I can get a way round it though during my leisure time tomorrow.
But at the mean time, let me invite some math generals to check it out.
