We Monitor Jet-A1 Deliveries to Airlines, Says NCAA…Thisday

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reacted to the allegation by Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) that fuel marketers had been supplying kerosene in place of aviation fuel (Jet-A1) to the airlines; insisting that it monitors every fuel delivery to airlines.

Director-General of NCAA, Muhktar Usman, a pilot and aeronautical engineer said that though, there is only a little difference between Jet-A1 and Kerosene, the Authority’s inspectors, aircraft engineers pilots would not allow any contaminated fuel to be used for airline operations.

According to him, the quality control of aviation fuel starts from the Petroleum Ministry, adding that it will be very difficult to exchange the two commodities.

FAAN Commended for Progress of Work at New Terminals…Thisday

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has been applauded for the consistency and progress of work so far at the new terminal projects in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt and Enugu. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, Hajia Binta Bello, who praised the agency for the project advancement, expressed the hope that with the current pace of work, the projects would be completed as scheduled.

In 2012 federal government secured a loan of $500 million from Chinese Exim Bank to build the new terminals and the projects are expected to be delivered early next year.

Making Nigeria’s aviation regulations compliant to international standards…Guardian

Sustaining air transport safety and regulations for continuous improvement in the sector, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has embarked on three-day workshop to update stakeholders on the changes the industry need to adopt and use, so as to meet international recommended practices and standards.

The regulatory body, however, disclosed that, there have been a lot of changes as regards the documentation from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which the aviation industry regulations need to be in line with those changes that have taken place.

Nigerian Airlines Spend over N250bn Annually on Overseas Aircraft Maintenance…Thisday

Commercial airlines, charter operators and privately owned jets spend about N250 billion annually on aircraft maintenance and simulator training of pilots, THISDAY investigation has revealed.

Airlines, according the checks, pay a minimum of $500, 000 for engine overhaul and about the same amount of money for C-Check maintenance on a Boeing 737 aircraft.

It was gathered that Nigerian airlines spend so much because everything that has to do major maintenance is done overseas, including recurrent training for engineers and pilots.

The proposed merger of the aviation with transport ministries and clamour for a national carrier were among the major issues in the aviation industry during the first 100 days of President Muhammadu Buhari.

When President Muhammadu Buhari took over the reins of power on May 29, expectations were high in the aviation industry that most of the challenges bedeviling the sector would soon be addressed. Indeed many expected that the Ministry of Aviation would be put in its rightful place and the arbitrary issuance of frequencies to foreign airlines, would stop.

Unending Gridlock at Abuja Airport…Thisday

From about 300 meters away, an elderly man carrying a heavy luggage, tottered along the road to the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. He needed to be at the airport in less than 30 minutes, in order to catch his flight, so he decided to pass through the toll gate that ushered vehicles into the airport more than one hour before. The on-going international terminal construction had brought airport traffic to a standstill and the taxi conveying him to the airport had been standstill in the traffic for 18 minutes.

Parking Fines: Bi-Courtney, FAAN Accused of Ripping Off Motorists…Thisday

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) have been accused of exploiting motorists at the airports through arbitrary fines for alleged illegal parking.

The two organisations, according to airport users view such penalty payment as revenue drive and give it out as concession whereby the concessionaires ought to return a certain amount of money monthly to them (BASL and FAAN).

Abuja, Lagos, Other Cities to Experience Lunar Eclipse on September 28…Thisday

The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) on Wednesday said Abuja, Lagos and several other cities and towns across the country, would experience a lunar eclipse on September 28.

In a signed statement by the agency’s Deputy Director of Media and Corporate Communications Dr. Felix Ale, said the lunar eclipse would begin on Monday 28, 1:11a.m, local time and will be at its maximum by 3:47 a.m. local time, with its final contact by 6:22a.m.

Aviation fuel didn’t cause crashes – Marketers…Punch

Sahara Group has absolved itself and other petroleum product marketers of the accusation that the aviation fuel they supplied to airline operators caused majority of the crashes experienced in the country in recent times.

The firm, on Thursday, insisted that its subsidiary, So Aviation Fuel Limited, did not fuel the aircraft, stressing that the marketers who supplied the fuel were also not responsible nor contributed in any way to the accidents.

Police release Lagos airport stowaway identity…Punch

The Airport Command of the Nigerian Police Force on Thursday said preliminary investigations had revealed that the Lagos airport stowaway arrested on Wednesday lives in Anambra.

The police also gave the name of the stowaway as Festus Chikelube.

The suspect was nabbed inside the tyre compartment of a Ghana-bound Medview Airlines plane parked at the tarmac of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two.

…Abeshi suspends inspection of foreigners’ documents

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has said that 17 stowaway attempts were made at the Lagos airport in 2014. This underscored the huge security threat at many of the nation’s airports. The disclosure was made yesterday by the NIS, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos, Command; Mrs. Chizoba Dibi. She said this when the new Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Mr. Martins Abeshi inspected the agency’s facilities at the Lagos airport.

Within the same period, she declared that the command also refused 238 Nigerians from departing the shores of the country for several reasons. She added that 297 foreigners were also refused admission into the country.
