THE POWER OF PACKAGING & BRANDING (A Case study of Louis Vuitton's Ghana-Must-Go Bags and Burna Boy's repackaged Konto Sounds) By Moran Cee Onyemaechi

Packaging and branding are two basic marketing tools used to re-position a product or service and change people's perception about them and encourage wider acceptability.

Some great products/Services are overlooked or not respected due to poor packaging and presentation, as a result they are usually low priced.

Every individual and organization should Strive to make all their offers (product or service) become a brand. Brand does not only mean a Unique name given to a product because it goes beyond that. It starts first with a unique appealing name for differentiation and also ensuring that quality(Satisfaction) is guaranteed from using such product/Service. Furthermore, integrated PROMOTION should be used to let potential customers know the value of such products or service. Through consistent Promotions, the product/Service's name is engraved on the minds of customers and they are easily memorized and sometimes used to describe other competing products. E.g INDOMIE a brand of Noodle is used to represent other noodles. CLOSE-UP or MACLEANS are used to describe other tooth pastes, while GALA is used for other sausages in Nigeria! That is BRANDING!

On the other hand, packaging includes proper presentation of a product/service to enable easy acceptance. This includes good physical design for appeal (Aesthetics) and a good delivery process to differentiate it from others.

Yes, our common, local and overlooked "Ghana-must-Go" bag (If what is spread in the news is true) is now being Repackaged and Branded by Louis Vuitton; a popular Bag designer to make it fashionable and acceptable even for the Ladies to carry along. Don't be shocked to hear your wives and girlfriends crave to buy a repackaged "Ghana-Must-Go" bag at an outrageous amount

The only major problem now is that it would increase suspicions on ladies when visiting their men because the bag can contain home items and even at parties, foods with drinks can be easily smuggled leading to shortages there.

One reality in life is that things that become acceptable as a way of life came as a result of Proper BRANDING and PACKAGING. So, when shit or Nonsense is packaged and branded, it makes sense! Things are accepted by how they are packaged and presented!

In Nigerian Music today, most artistes (Mavins, K.Cee, Kayswitch etc) are going back to the "Konto" music sounds branded as "Local Ajegunle Music" which was dumped for hip-hop just because Burna Boy repackaged it to give it respect. Majority of clothes and shoes accepted as fashions today were repackaged yesteryears' old school clothes and shoes.

By the way, the difference between Kpekere and Plantain Chips, Guguru and PopCorn, ShopriteBread and Agege Bread, Ashewo and Call girls, Tailor and Fashion Designer, Engineer and Mechanic, Jester and Comedian, Politician and Thief, Furniture expert and Carpenter, Coat and Suit is PACKAGING and BRANDING.

If you are convinced that what you offer has a UNIQUE VALUE, then Package and Brand it for respect and acceptance! I REST MY CASE! #IRMC (c) 2015 Moran Cee - 08038395522
