Well noted...Thanks.

BTW, I have a Nigerian account created about a year ago. Just got my first contract last week.

Interestingly, Upwork suspended my account for excessive proposal sending without winning contracts, saying it seems the community has no need of my skills.

I appealled the ban, highlighting the success of my new contract and thankfully, the lifted the restriction.

Just today, I rejigged my profile and skills to reflect more high-demand niches that I can offer. However, I'm taking my time to avoid been tagged for proposal spamming without commensurate result and all.

Really optimistic that my (re)entry into online freelancing will pay off this time.

Thanks a bunch!

I got a job recently apparently I wasn't getting any because my account was on private once I changed it to public I got an offer to bid for a job but didn't as luckily I got my first job and did it within days now it seems am o retainer because I keep getting request for more work from the same guy and asking for my budget my problem is pricing as I took up up work to keep myself busy and try out new projects or if possible get full-time if they find my skills and work so good. Check your profile setting if it's public or private also another thing I do is when I apply for proposal I give reason and how to go about the task in case am not picked.

Search for those offering same service as you do, go through their profiles and see how much they charge their clients. That way, you'll know what's appropriate and what's not. If I were you, I won't feel too bad about being perhaps underpaid at this stage, it's just a way to get your foot in the door. Just be patient and bide your time.

I prefer someone with background in business /Accounting /Finance or Economics or someone smart enough to make tthis requirement unnecessary.

Please send me a mail with samples of your previously written works to mrdygeasy@gmail.com.

You MUST be always online and excuses such as no light and water will not be tolerated.

If you can't write good English on email or whatsapp, I may not be able to trust you with my articles.

Upwork don knack me hammer oooo.

I currently can't send proposals.

I presume this is due to my noncompliance with the verification request [See at the topmost part].

Might just be closing up this account, just after I withdraw my money this week.

This is painful.

Sorry about that... I hope you can withdraw your funds?

Upwork is pretty bias with this new development. If you want to register as a Nigerian, they will spill out some cock and bull story why your profile was not accepted.

But if you try to register using native English countries, their system will automatically accept you.

I think this is unfair!

Everyone of us with foreign accounts are just praying hard they shouldn't play this music to our direction.

Right now, I have a long term contract with a great client who is ready to spend good amount money on his project.

I don't want this Upwork thingy to come between this contract.

Please, any tip on how to wade off this thing would be great.

Also, any tip on how to register successfly as a Nigerian will be appreciated.

1. One tip I got but have not tried is make sure your profile is 100 percent complete before submitting it.

2. Use a very clear picture of yourself that aim more on your face. Sort of a passport.

3. Opt-in for skills that are part of Upwork in-demand skills. I heard Upwork is looking for freelancer in these genre.

4. After you have been accepted, revert back to your main skill.

I have not tried these tips but there is no harm in trying:
they might just work out for you.

For writers in the house, you got nothing to fear if Upwork closes your account. I believe you have worked for a good number of clients. And you know why they need contents for their business.

Majority of my clients need contents for affiliate marketing. Others for kindle publishing.

So guys, you can dive into this as well. With the right research and steps you will definitely hit the nail.

Please we need more tips on how we can survive these new development from Upwork.

Any contribution from the house is highly welcome.

After going through guides on this thread, I created upwork account since February 2017, but till date I haven't got any job. I've submitted several proposals, yet no order. Anyone with similar experience?
My niche is in writing & research (Academic writing & article writing). I'm wondering if the problem is related to the niche am into or because I opened the account as a Nigerian.
Pls I need candid advice on how to succeed as a newbie. Is the problem from my profile details or my proposals I sent? What should I do? Good suggestions pls.

Nice thoughts.

The most paramount thing is to ensure consistency of I.P.

Once you get this right, there won't almost be any reason for you to go through the verification process.

Don't use Mozilla browser as your I.P profixer. It sucks and kills.

All the best!

Hi,

I have gone through your profile. I'd say you are very lucky to have such account at a time when Upwork rejects profile, especially from writing niche.

Your profile overview needs some polishing. It's not competitive enough. You were talking more about yourself.

One mistake you made was that you didn't tell your client how you can help them in their project?

You also made another mistake by asserting that you are on the platform to build your career. Client wouldn't find that funny. They are in need of experts to make their project be in tip top shape.

Third one was you were sounding as if you were looking for job desperately. You were like "any writing job will do essay writing, research, article etc."

I would say that is not professional.

Why don't you position yourself as if you want to help them out in their project. Sound like a professional who wants to help clients solve their problems?

For example :

Are you looking for a freelance writer who can craft out great content that converts? Are you in need of a writer who can easily play with words and persuade your target audience to take action?

Then that writer is me. I can help you move your internet campaign to the next level.

My years of writing and harvest of positive results will improve your business geometrically.

You will be happy you finally got in touch me because of my unique freelance service that stands out from the crowd.....

And so on...

One key thing you should always bear in mind is to bring out unique features about your service and what your client stand to gain from these features.

This also applies to your proposal. On Upwork, a well crafted proposal with the right work sample counts.

Another key thing is to make sure you research and see how other successful freelancers tailored their profile. That will give you an idea on how to go about it.

You can choose any category of writing that deem fit to you and can also bid on any of them.

But you don't have show it on your profile that you are very good at all of them. Clients we see you as someone who is desperately waiting to devour any writing work that comes your way.

So, your cover up should be on your profile title.

You can tag it as: "prolific content writer, creative content writer, content that converts specialist," etc.

On the add-skill section, you can add related skill like :
Article writing, creative writing, content writing, copywriting, academic writing etc. They all speak the same language.

Then in your overview use top-notch description to convince client that you can help them to solve their problems.

Here is a proposal I used to get my current client. Well, it is a pinch of the entire proposal, but I think it will stand as a source of inspiration to you.

Don't copy word for word. Twist it to suit your taste.

Hi!

My name is Micheal Thomas a Native English writer from Nigeria. I have been creating remarkable contents for clients that coverts for 2 years now.

Thankfully most of my clients have left amazing tips and numerous thank you message for being the Chief cornersone to the huge returns to their investment.

I can skillfully take on your writing project. You just got to trust me on this.

I am a native English speaker, so I assure the best communication for your projects.

Based on my experience writing contents, I have personally learnt that copies that convert are the ones that come with a lot of benefits.

Through research, I have found out that most web contents fail to break even because:

1. They Fail to Personalized the Article

No personal stories to engage the audience. People are passionate, they buy things out of passion. You need to hit on that.

How do you get to know their feelngs?

Through forums and social media. You will find them talking about the challenges they face for that product.

2. Making it Salesy

The truth is nobody loved to be sold to. But your article can bring out what the readers will miss out if he fails to buy the product.

Readers want to know what they can benefit from the products.

If you hire me for this project, you are going to get much more tips in your content. And I assure you, it will converts.

Thanks and Looking forward to hearing from you.

Please note :

As a Nigerian writer you are going to face a lot of challenges. Most of these moguls, tend to trust their projects on native English speakers.

But you can break this jinx if you can secure your first job from a non-native English speaking client. Once you do a quality job, and he leaves a good rating, then you are in for business.

I wish you success in your freelance adventure.

That is great to hear. Even after posing as Native English speaker, it took me a week to get my first client.

How you approach the Job and tailor your proposal in a way that suit what the client is looking for might win you the job.

I have got client who would say, " I like your proposal, but can we start off with just a single content so that I can get a feel of your writing?"

So that goes a long way to say that three things counts in freelancing no matter the competition and nationality:

1. Great profile
2. High catchy proposal
3. And high quality work

I just got a hint from a friend who is also in the same boat with you. He was sent the same video call verification message.

Before the interview, he changed all his information back to that of Nigeria.(maybe except the name).

So, when he opted in for the interview he had no choice than to plead to the support that he was sorry for his action and that he has reverted back to his true nationality.

He also promised the platform that he is not going to do it again, but he going to be true to his nationality.

And you know what? It paid off. Upwork did not close his account.

So I wouldn't advise you to close the account just yet. Just try the above tip. Maybe it might work for you. You have been in the game, so you will know how to get clients even as a Nigerian.

Great and thanks for this.

Unfortunately, mine is a little bit complicated...How?

I already have a Nigerian account which is more specialised and won't be willing to let go for. You know Upwork doesn't support the ownership of multiple accounts and the acceptability of Nigerianness by most buyers is quite slim, so there would always be some form of impersonation.

A case in view, the said UK account made in less than a month the total sum of the revenue I generated from a Nigerian account in about 6 months, for which Upwork threatened to deactivate my account for failure to win contracts having exhausted my CONNECTS month-over-month...This is the reality.

Well, they can have the account, once I successfully withdraw my revenue wink wink

Thanks man!
