The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday said that a huge chunk of billions of Naira budgeted annually for Nigeria’s economy end up in private pockets.

The part made this while hailing the Nigerian workers and the Civil Society for standing up firmly against corruption, calling their open demonstration of support for the Federal Government’s battle against corruption a major boost to the anti-graft fight.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Nigerian workers’ unambiguous stand against corruption is also a clear repudiation of all those who have attempted to politicize the battle either by insinuating selectivity or saying the government should face governance instead of dwelling on the fight against corruption.

”Thursday’s nationwide demonstrations by Nigerian workers and the Civil Society in support of the anti-corruption battle is the clearest indication yet that corruption is now seen for what it is, a vice to be condemned and punished rather than something to be venerated and celebrated. The growing intolerance for corruption among Nigerians is also a clear example of what a nation can achieve under a committed, sincere, purposeful and focused leadership,” it said

I cannot but agree with Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who surely must have Lagos state in mind when he made his statement.
Otherwise how can a state that budgets almost N500 billion annually have areas like this right behind its Marina State House, just nine months ago i.e. Dec. 2014

All this nastiness just needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. Relocate the residents, compensate the owners and build the city from scratch, section by section.

What Nigerians never seem to get is that everything ALWAYS has a resulting effect. E.G The dirtiness causes illness which affects development which affects productivity etc. Or put this way: The buildings encroaching the roads mess up the city plans, which messes up the drainage, which messes up the roads which then causes delays and leads to less productivity.

Bottom line, stop running around in circles and putting band aids on a grenade wound. Do things right or don't do them at all. Nigeria in 2015 is a very sad case.

I don't think our oyinbo 'superiors' knocked down their old buildings and quarters before putting modern sanitation facilities like WC toilets, gutters/drains, sewers, electricity, telephones etc in place. Not so

All money budgeted for infrastructures / amenities in Lagos state are all in Tinubu's pocket, including the entire state treasury. embarassed

Hence, no meaningful development.

Well, so stop being typically African and doing things like cave men and do them like your admitted superiors for better results.
