LMAO..........na wa, i can imagine their frustration...aint easy mehn..... I might go the PLAB way eventually!...Just that i hear conflicting stories. Some people say its difficult getting a job in the uk, even after passing both PLAB1and2.........but my friend who was working in Saudi, jux moved to the uk recently after passing all.....what he tells me now is that he has got a job @ hand in manchester, he is just tryna get/process some permit papers.

These r d issues!!...wetin u fink personally?

Depending on pocket and number of years post school...If u r still fresh and have access to money...ur best bet will be USA...but if u r omo boy like me...OYO, best u try the UK...They are employing now...as long as you can pass IELTS, then Plab 1, you are good for Plab 2...and a job will be waiting for you after you pass Plab 1 now

Right now the best place to go is UK through plab as they need a lot of doctors, US if you dont have work permit visa or residency its very hard getting into a residency system because no one will want to sponsor since competition is fierce. It is even worse in Canada even with your PR, canada is the most difficult country to get in an practise as a doctor so guys migrating there bear in mind so you dont go there and end up been lab scientist, cab drivers or street sweepers as some of my friends.
Right now UK is very much open and they need doctors all you have to do is pass the IELTS AND PLAB exams and if after passing them and you get your GMC licence and cant get a job just send me a message and email and i can assure you of one.
Now the exams are becoming tougher and more expensive and the gates wont be open forever and UK is very unstable with policies so the earlier you jump on the boat the better. Some guys on Locum earn as much as 10k pounds monthly which is quite incredible and also compared to the quality of life.

There's nothing like "highest paying specialty" in Nigeria. Its not like the U.S. The government pays all consultants based on the same salary scale, so the salary is relatively the same. What differentiates them is the extra locums and private practice that they do.

My question is did you really say and mean 10 - 12k pounds per month? shocked shocked If so,
1. is this for medical officers or for specialists and consultants
2. If for medical officers, at what level post internship is one eligible? I have 3 yrs experience post internship, am I eligible?
3. Is passing ielts, plab 1 and 2, the only requirement for such locum jobs? If not, what else is required?
4. How much of this salary is taxed and what is left as take home after tax?
5. What is the cost of living like in the UK? Can you estimate the average amount spent monthly by say a single guy on accomodation, power, water, gas, transport, feeding etc. What would be left after such recurrent expenses?
6. How many hours per week is one required to work to get such pay? Someone somewhere on this thread mentioned 48hrs per wk. Is this true for all locum jobs in the UK or is it employer dependent?
7. If the salary for medical officers is so high, I wonder what specialists and consultants would be earning. Do you have any idea?
8. Do the recent numerous job openings in the Uk include residency positions also? If yes, what specialties are involved? Would I be eligible after passing ielts, plab 1 and 2?
9. How long ago did these openings occur and how long do you think they'd last?
10. On average, how long dyu think one would need realistically to prepare for these exams, pass all and be ready to submit an application for a job offer. Do you think its reasonable to begin pursuing it at this time or would you rather advise that I focus on the US which seems to be more certain in terms of residency placement once one achieves a high score in USMLE...

I have other questions but I'd like to receive answers to these ones first before I proceed. Answers from anyone who has info are welcome. Thanks in advance.

ANSWERS
Guy, u don't have parallax. I said 12,000£. It is not a typo error

1.We are talking from level of Junior doctors. But note that laws are fluid and could affect this at some point eg Junior doctors contarct will change from april 2016. Either way, its still a better option than naija
2.Advise that u complete minimum of house job and youth service
3. ielts plab 1 and 2 minimum requirements. extensive/international/u.k Experience boosts marketability
4. As per tax issues; lol there are ways around the thing which i can't reveal online. Ur locum people go handle am 4 u. Even if u dont like work and u decided to work 2 weeks in a month only. U could still earn baseline £2800-£4000
5. Depends on where u live. in london more expensive. As u head towards scotland/wales maybe cheaper. Lets assume u make only 2k a month. Even if u spend 1k a month on utilities and rent. u can still save £1k= naira350,000/month
6.guy u work however u feel comfortable. there is flexibility
7. Become a consultant and u'll find out. fewer hours, more money
8.Some specialties are more difficult than others to get in. But indians and pakis are getting in because they collaborate among themselves. the consultants help out the juniors. The Nigerians will stab u in the back or hide information. the nigerian consultant don't even want to be associated with u. Personally, i think itz an inferiority complex angry
Also try and join MANSAG or some association. may be helpful
All said and done, you can do whatever u want to do. ur mind is ur only limitation
A couple friends got neurosurgery
9.There are always openings. U.K Laws change anytime. Difficult to predict.
10.USMLE residency is more certain. IF u can pass 1st time. The more u fail, the harder it becomes. PLAB is faster and possibly easier to pass. If ur a sharp guy, u can round up ielts plab 1 and 2 in 6 months. Start working and raise money for USMLE exams in between
USMLE no be beans. You have to be well prepared b4 u write it.
Of recent, I've seen a lot of ??ABSU-?abia state university doctors both in U.S and U.K and they seem to be doing very well
You hv to make up your own mind what u want. So that when u f-up, u can't blame anyone else. grin grin

My heart broke for nigeria when some consultants i knew left nigeria to write PLAB. Fear catch me sha. They complained of inability to pay school fees of their children, insecurity, poor remuneration, strikes, poor diagnostics etc
My Naija peops
don't stay in Nigeria... MOVE
Especially now that u are young
SA, U.K, U.S.A, Australia,Even western/Eastern europe sef
MOVE!!
NO LIMITS!!
Naija no dey carry last
You can always come back to Nigeria to practice when ur old/retired abroad/ or litigation has damaged ur credit line abroad grin grin grin

@ rugged7: thanks a whole lot for ur reply. I'm very grateful. As per leaving naija, omoh, I don run comot for over 8mnths now. Na ksa I take dey type this thing so. I'm actually able to save up to 350k naira here per month overall, thats why I'm asking these questions to be sure of where next I'm moving to. I want my next movement to be a final one... somewhere I can really settle down for good. I wouldn't want to move to the UK and then begin to plan for the US. So in your opinion, would you say overall and in the long run that the US is better? What other advantages does the US have over the UK than a more certain residency position assuming one passes with a very high score? Thanks in advance...

Please if anyone has info about how much drs can earn and save in foreign countries other than the US and the UK, dont hesitate to post it here. We need info pls to make critical decisions. Why aim for the ceiling when one can aim for the stars? We need details from people already in these countries who are working and have first hand info. Details of the salary earned by medical officers, resident doctors and consultants as well as take home pay after tax, cost of living in those countries and how much these drs can save at the end of the day after recurrent expenses are all welcome.

Guys,

Always cover your ass o!!

I am almost certain that this was more of a mis-communication problem than a medical negligence problem.

I have seen patients in AMU- Acute Medical Units with significant cardiac or respiratory problems not clerked-in or not post-taken from ER just because of major work pressure.

It is quite likely that in the heat of "heavy workload", the nurses might have told her the patient had a DNAR order and she just assumed that info was correct. She then re-prioritized cases accordingly.

And the fact that she is a black person makes it more likely that they will try pin this on her as well... undecided

Don't EVER trust oyibo... THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS. No matter how much they pretend.

Nigeria-born doctor found guilty of manslaughter of a 6-year-old boy who was "seriously neglected" in a UK hospital

A court in the UK has found a Nigeria-born doctor, Hadiza Bawa-Garba, guilty of the manslaughter of a six-year-old boy who was "seriously neglected" in hospital.

Jack Adcock died of a cardiac arrest at Leicester Royal Infirmary in February 2011.

The trial heard the boy's death was caused by "serious neglect" by staff who failed to recognise his body was "shutting down" and close to death, the prosecution claimed.
At one point, Bawa-Garba, 38, mistook Jack for another patient who had a do not resuscitate order.

Jack, who had Down's syndrome and a heart condition, was admitted to the hospital with vomiting and diarrhoea.

Bawa-Garba said in her defence she had worked a 12-hour shift with no break and there was a lot of miscommunication in the ward.

The only option I'm aware of which is available for doctors there is work as a doctor. Any post nysc doctor is eligible. Just keep your eyes and ears open for their advert so that when next they come to Nigeria for an interview, u can attend the interview, pass it and migrate... I believe they conduct interviews every year.

Re: Medical Doctors' Forum: Let Us Know You! by rugged7(m): 10:22am On Nov 10, 2015
Start saving money- in pounds sterling
Take ielts, probably in Nigeria...
7.5 minimum in all bands
Pass
Start prepping for plab
it's possible to pass plab1 just by reading from afar
But u need the right materials= oxford handbook + swamy/samson materials
You can send a mail to swammy or samson and once u pay, they can send u the materials.
If u are not so strong, then get a british visa and go to swammy/samson school at ilford
if u pass plab 1
You must prepare for plab 2 from within the uk
Go to swamy/samson prep classes.
Minimum of 2 weeks but try 4 weeks practical preparation there
If u pass plab2
apply for clinical attatchment immediately. try to go towards the north of england otherwise it will be difficult to get any attatchment
Then follow MDCN bumper to bumper so that they can send ur documents to gmc on time and in good order
When gmc gives u the license- thank god- for it is not by thy will, but by the grace of god...

Hello Rugged, please you said for Plab2 you must prepare for it in UK? So one can't do the preparation from here?by watching videos? A doc said so,just wondering,
Re: Medical Doctors' Forum: Let Us Know You! by rugged7(m): 6:09pm On Nov 11, 2015
There is no hard and fast rule about this stuff...
Of course people can pass it by just watching videos and not being in the u.k
BUT, not everybody is as sharp as you.
And i promise you, those swammy lessons are very useful
And u do practice sessions with one on one with swammy or people who have recently passed the plab
To me, i would advice anybody to at least do a minimum of 2 week prep at swammy/samson b4 the plab2
It will save u money and heartache later
Clinical attachment sharply- apply barnsley NHS or sheffield
Meanwhile, any female doctors interested in marrying male doctors, or vice versa, let me know too.
I link u up.
quality dey marry quality...chikena

I need 80,000 naira to start the necessary processing. The process will close very soon. Please, help me, so that my dream to become a pharmaceutical toxicolgist and epidemologist will not be truncated. God bless you in Jesus' name. A Nigerian man, Aberie Nwafor has been arrested in South Africa for using fake qualifications to practise as a “doctor” in a government hospital for years.

Nwafor was said to have arrived in South Africa 15 years ago and was arrested Nov. 6 for using fake qualifications to find a job as a doctor at a Limpopo government hospital.

Nwafor's wife, Amara was also arrested and he was found in possession of 14 fake passports.

Last Monday, he appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate Court on charges of fraud, corruption and violation of South African immigration laws.

Reacting to Nwafor's court appearance, Dr Sizeka Maweya of the South African Medical Association (Sama) warned the problem was widespread.

Maweya said: “The Health Professional council is failing us, now we check those foreign doctors from countries such as Nigeria personally, but the problem is that we don’t have capacity, but now SAMA (South African Medical Association) has said ‘let us be the ones who vet them, because we understand the trade’.”

Maweya said Sama had in the past helped the health department to remove two Nigerian “doctors” suspected of using fake qualifications from the Musina hospital and in Waterberg, also in Limpopo.

Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba put the blame on Health Professional Council officials for failing to properly vet these “doctors”.

[s]“Most of these foreign doctors know nothing, even some nurses are better than this foreign doctors,” Maweya claimed.[/s]

Yoruba man trained in ife practicing in u.s

There are more than 40,000 nigerian doctors working in u.k, u.s, australia, new zealand, europe, russia and that xenophobic sh*thole called south africa. Most of them are excellent doctors. obviously there will be a few bad eggs.
BUT overall, Nigerian doctors have proved themselves over and over again.

You can't blame Nigerain doctors just because the MORONIC south africans can't distinguish between a native doctor and a medical doctor.
Even when given 15 years to check the documents. undecided
The fact is south africans are a lazy bunch of morons angry
