Nigeria are to play two friendly matches against Cameroon and Congo next month in Belgium, the president of the country’s football association said on Monday.
“I can confirm that we will play against Congo on October 8 in Antwerp and against Cameroon on October 11 in Brussels,” Amaju Pinnick said on Nigeria’s Channels television.
Congo denied Nigeria a spot at the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea earlier this year by finishing second in the qualifying group behind South Africa.
Pinnick said the Nigeria Football Federation was also eyeing another friendly with a north African team before the Super Eagles’ 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt in March.
Tunisia and Algeria are being considered as possibilities for the fixture in November, he added.
Egypt currently lead Group G with six points from two matches. Nigeria are second on four points.
The two sides clash in a double-header in what is being seen as the decider for automatic qualification for the tournament in Gabon in two years’ time.

Coach Sunday Oliseh has invited 24 players for next month's international friendly games against Cameroon and DR Congo.

Heading the list are Mikel Obi and Victor Moses who had been overlooked by Nigeria this year owing to lack of regular playing time for their respective English Premier League outfits.

All making a return to the senior national team are Ogenyi Onazi, Elderson Echiejile and Odion Ighalo – with former Flying Eagles star Abdulahi Shehu handed a call up for the first time.

Others are Vincent Enyeama, Leon Balogun, Rabiu Ibrahim, Godfrey Oboabona, Ahmed Musa and Rabiu Ibrahim.

Six players from the Nigeria Professional Football League made the cut and they include, Femi Thomas, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Paul Onobi, Prince Aggrey, Austin Oboroakpo and Chima Akas.

However, Solomon Kwambe, Gbolahan Salami, Haruna Lukman were excluded from the squad that would try the Indomitable Lions and Red Devils for size.

Nigeria will take on Cameroon in a friendly in Brussels, Belgium on October 11, and will also face Congo three days earlier.

The winner of the preliminary round between Swaziland and Djibouti will host the Super Eagles on November 9 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup first round qualifier, with the Eagles hosting the return leg in Nigeria eight days later.

All invited players are expected to report in Belgium on Monday.

Oliseh Invites Arsenal's Iwobi For Cameroon, Congo Friendlies

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has added Arsenal youngster, Alex Iwobi, to the list of invited players for next month's international friendly games against DR Congo and Cameroon in Belgium.

This was made known by the Nigeria Football Federation, on Wednesday, on their official website.

Iwobi will join the 24 other players earlier picked by Oliseh for the international friendly games.

Iwobi, who featured for Arsenal during pre-season, had trained with the Nigeria U-23 squad ahead of an All-Africa Games qualifying return leg match in March 2015.

Despite appearing for England at youth level, Iwobi is eligible to represent Nigeria.

And FIFA has clarified that the 19-year -old can wear Nigeria’s colours since he did not feature for England in an official game. The NFF has now received from The Football Association a list of seven matches that Iwobi played for England at youth level, none of which was an official game.

FIFA underscored that Iwobi can put on the green-white-green since he has permanent Nigerian citizenship and did not represent another association (country) in a match in an official competition.

The Eagles will take on DR Congo on October 8 before squaring up with Cameroon three days later, in Belgium.

Meanwhile, the winner of the preliminary round between Swaziland and Djibouti will host the Super Eagles on November 9 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup first round qualifier, with the Eagles hosting the return leg in Nigeria eight days later.

All invited players for the international friendly games, are expected to arrive in Belgium on Monday, 5 October.

NIGERIA REPLACE INJURED OMERUO WITH EFE AMBROSE

Celtic defender Efe Ambrose will replace injured Kenneth Omeruo for friendlies against DR Congo and Cameroon.

Omeruo suffered a hamstring injury in a league match for his Turkish club Kasimpasa this week and the severity of this injury has yet to be ascertained.

According to the NFF official Twitter handle, Ambrose will take Omeruo’s place in the Super Eagles for the test games in Belgium.

Versatile Ambrose has played at right fullback for the Eagles, but towards the final days of former coach Stephen Keshi he appeared to have fallen out of favour.

He is now likely to fight for a place in his more familiar central defence role.

Efe Ambrose who is making a return to the Super Eagles since 2014 was shown red at the weekend while in action for his Scottish club at the weekend.

Victor Moses opts out of Nigeria friendlies for fear of injuries

West Ham United forward Victor Moses has pulled out of Nigeria’s friendlies against the DR Congo and Cameroon, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have announced.
The Super Eagles tackle DRC in Vise, Liege, on Thursday, October 8 and will then confront Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions in Dendermonde on Sunday, October 11.

In a letter to the Nigeria Football Federation Moses said he was pulling out in a precautionary move against injury.
Earlier, Turkey–based defender Kenneth Omeruo was ruled out of the double header in Belgium this week owing to a hamstring injury.

Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh, while regretting this setback, assured that the team have enough good quality options to fill the gaps left by both players.

“We have no choice now but to work with the other players who are available,”Oliseh said.

Sure. I think Oliseh knows that. we need improvements on our FIFA rankings, since the next world cup qualification will be decided by the Rankings

At thesame time, the match is a friendly game, thus, it is not a do or die affair. Play it like a preparatory match in anticipation of the upcoming match against Chad or whoever
