Very different from the last one, what's with the eagle? Compare to this a year ago....Wow! time fly so fast. BTW there is nothing "Nigerian" about that doodle apart from the colours, Noting that is peculiar to our culture. How many times have you ever seen an eagle in Nigeria self. They should change it, It looks like a logo for a brand of soap or milk.

Happy independence day BTW.

Truthfully, it looks kinda plain. But it's not lacking in symbolism. Beside the colors, the major rivers are captured, and d eagle depicts d popular national team once feared worldwide(super or flying eagles was once the 5th best footballing national team in d world). The vegetation surrounding d rivers represent fertility and untapped natural resources.

God bless Nigeria!

Great. That is why I love Google. They also do that for the birthdays of people who are regular users of Google. They have been doing so for my birthday.

Just like yesterday I remember when Nigeria turned 25 years , the best independence song was created for that year ( 1985 ). Anybody who grew up in my time would certainly remember the song.

Nigeria is 25
Arise salute your nation
come join the celebration
A people united will never fall........
Nigeria is 25
Nigeria is 25

I can't remember most of the lyrics but the tune still plays in my head

the Eagle is an emblem of Nigeria strength, it's on our coat of arm(I think you know that),that's our national team name.
you will see a Y shaped river flowing on the green, that represent the R. Niger and Benue and the tail represent the N.Delta. The green land on which the river flow is our green land vegetation
the art work shows the value of Nigeria.

It is for Google Nigeria page that is google.com.ng grin so no need to feel say them recognise us grin for Google.co.uk this is the home page

They obviously would not put it on the google.co.uk page; this is for Nigeria's independence so makes sense to put it on the Nigerian domain/web page. Let us for once celebrate this country rather than pulling it down even if subtly.

Thanks for this post.
I was surprised at the question "what's with the eagle".
Dude does not know or can't remember that the Nigerian coat of arms prominently features an EAGLE!

If our country is worth dying for in time of war let us resolve that it is truly worth living for in time of peace.

especially the ones that celebrate an event such as a country’s independence day, are always anticipated and revered. Since 2010, Google has been creating illustrative artwork that feature the colours, cultures, flags or fabrics of Nigeria.

Last year, to mark the Nigeria’s 54th Independence Anniversary Day celebration, Google had a .GIF doodle that features the three most popular means of transport for daily commuters in Lagos, the country’s commercial capital — the motorcycle, popularly referred to as okada, the mini-bus, popularly known as danfo, and the tricycle, widely known as keke marwa.

The passengers in these vehicles also appear to represent the three major tribes — Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba — respectively, dressed in their native attires and carrying the Nigerian flag, grining and waving as they ride on.

Nigeria gained independence on the 1st of October, 1960. This is the third doodle for Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary to be created by Google since October 2010. in 2013, Google featured the colours of the Nigerian flag, green and white, with a touch of different shades of green and grey patterned like a Nigerian (native) fabric popularly sewn and worn by the Hausas.

in 2015, below is the picture of what Google used to celebrate Nigeria's 55 years of Independence

Is this visible on google.com or on google.com.ng?

Be aware that the Eagle is Nigeria's National Animal. It's not a coincidence that our National Football Teams are called the Super Eagles, Green Eagles etc.

The eagle in the gif is American.
