This is really sad.
When will people learn to stop lifting such oil, when will they learn not to terminate their lives for some jerry cans of oil?
would we blame poverty? or what?

We should not blame these ppl guys. There is nothing extreme  poverty cannot cause or lead someone to. Its just that we have something doing that's why we lucky to tell the tales. If our refineries were to be working in full capacity, all this problems will not occur .May God help our leaders with stagnants ideas to think straight.

You'll be surprised that many of those that do these things
have more loose change in their pockets than you.

It's foolishness 100%. It's obvious the system is messed
up but as an individual, be wise and dont go near it.

akinlabi,

extreme poverty can blunt common sense. extreme poverty can convert a virgin to a prostitute.
it can convert a graduate to a tout.
converts a doctor to a foreign toilet cleaner.
converts a pastor to a thief,
it can break families and damage marriages

i tell you this b/c i have seen extreme poverty in nigeria. i saw it first hand. it is easy to say common sense should prevail, but believe me, there has to be an inner strenght to do so. i was lucky and determined, but i refuse to see my achievement as due to hadwork alone, i believe my God played a huge role in my progress, but i also refuse to disparage those less fortunate.

poverty is no joke. the problem with nigerians is that they take their rage to wrong directions/actions.
but what i feel for them is pity. sad pity.

@blackstar

if poverty is a choice, no one will be poor. no one. in the western world, people cant stand poverty, they do all sorts of things to avoid poverty. . . .the western world has the highest rate of suicide and broken homes than the rest of the world. may be ending their lives is part of the false choice you talk about.

poverty is not a choice.

tell me, whose choice?
whose choice was it that millions of afghan children are wretched?
whose choice was it that children die daily in sudan?
whose choice was it that diseases wipe out millions in africa every year.
Whose choice was it that millions of children cant go to school.

whose choice was it that africa has millions of educated lay abouts roaming around looking for an opportunity that their western couterparts take for granted.

why is it that the western world is more sexually liberal( including unprotected sex) and yet africa has more AIDS?

poverty is not a choice, it is a disease.

I hope it's only the illegal oil bunkerers that were charred like roasted corn not some innocent bystanders.
I have no mercy for them.
Petrol was created to burn and it did what it was supposed to do.
Hopefully some have learnt from this.

It's very serious. With the gory sights of previous victims we watch on TV and see in papers, it's a pity some people still do this thing. This is no longer poverty-induced, it is greed.

My guy it is poverty mainly and a little greed. If you are in their shoes ( i mean poor) what makes you think you will not risk it to make something out your life?

There are people who would rather die of hunger than steal.
Please let's not excuse criminals.
They killed themselves
period!
I have absolutely no sympathy for them
may their souls go where the souls of thieves go
