One of the aspirants in the last Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in Kogi State, Alhaji Jibrin Isa Echocho, and the son of former governor of the state, Hon Mohammed Ibrahim Idris, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja.

The defectors were welcomed to the APC fold amidst cheers and jubilation.

Receiving the decampees, the leader of the party in the state and gubernatorial candidate of the party, Prince Abubakar Audu, said with the departure of Echocho, PDP was dead and buried.



Audu said he was coming back to develop the state and not to revenge, and also be the first governor to shift power to another zone, adding that he would never victimise a Kogi citizen by using the police or EFCC as vengeance belongs to God.

Speaking shortly after his defection, Echocho said they gave PDP enough time to amend but they failed, adding that Audu’s coming is divine.

He urged all elders and youths in the state to support Audu in the coming election.

Also speaking, the former commissioner for information, Hon Tom Oyekhire, said Ebiras should vote Audu as it was only through the APC that the Ebira agenda could be realised.


Among those that defected were former Senator Dangana Ochaja, Hon Tom Zakari, Hon Adamu Sani, Hon Ada Zigo and some immediate past council chairmen.

But does not change the facts that AUDU has a case to answer with EFCC and he has promised to shamefully return 11 Billion naira stolen.

Where is the change in Kogi State? Despite the facts that i don't like Wada, am still not in support of an ex-convicts or a corrupt politicians.

Kogi needs another candidates not Audu or WADA.

Na wah ooo, our kind of politics in this clime should be studied by social anthropologists..

So, if one doesn't win primary, it means the party has failed?

I knew this Echocho was planning to defect when he didn't raise any dust about the primary not going his way.....

If PDP was purging itself, Echocho should not leave. His leaving is the PDP losing blood and losing its future in Kogi.

How do you reason with your anus like this? In simple English, it means Echocho is not a man of integrity and that's why he jumped ship to the APC. Had it been he won the primaries, would he have jumped ship?

Look, I am not a fan of Audu or Wada but seriously, saying the PDP is purging and forced Echocho out is FUNNY!!!

Abeg where is kogi state in nigeria?

Its now normal practice to fail in the primaries, dump the party and turn up for an election in a LOSERS rival party. Echocho will move to the APC, with hopes of upstaging the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Abubakar Audu, who is currently facing a rejection of the party. But like the failure of the two foolish Edo boys and Timi ALAIBE, " YOU CAN NOT COME AND CHOP, AFTER MONKEY HAS DONE ALL THE WORK". Echocho is as good as dead.

With the defection of Echocho, PDP can as well kiss the coming governorship election goodbye. There is no way Wada will defeat a combination of prince Audu and Echocho.

decieve urself na people like u or tonye wan come lead the pdp, truth is party by youth for new generation only works on paper. Which youth get the money or popularity to represent party, it would all come down to who has been in gout b4 that people knw. By the way george,talfida,almadu ali, remain pdp

the two choices are useless, but wada remains a muderer of iyayi, he has nothing to show, kogi has had enough of him. I expect kogi to join its folks in the north central, we say what they spoke of in the presidentail election. All that remains is 4 pmb to go to kogi and raise the hand of the flagbearer. PDP lost echocho because they wanted to retain idris, this is the death of PDP in kogi state.
