[b] The Cross River State National and State
Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in
Calabar, on Monday, upheld the declaration of
Mr. Gershom Bassey of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) as winner of the Southern Senatorial
district election, as declared by the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Prince Bassey Otu of Labour Party, had filed a
petition, challenging the declaration of Mr.
Gershom Bassey of the PDP, who was declared
winner in the March 28, 2015 gubernatorial
election in the southern senatorial district of
Cross River State.

Prince Otu had alleged that the election was
characterised by irregularities and breach of
guide lines and electoral malpractices, alleging
breach of the guidelines by INEC. He had also prayed the tribunal to upturn the election of the PDP candidate and call for a fresh election, alleging that Gershom Bassey was not properly elected.

Delivering judgment, Chairman of the tribunal,
Justice O.A. Adeniyi, dismissed the petitions,
deciding all the issues in favour of the Labour
Party candidate. [/b]
