My public service tip of the day. This one is for job seekers.

Anytime you get an sms interview invite quoting a reference number eg REF NO:Job-Tag005 just know it's a scam.

Example:

"Via referral, MC LTD invites U for interview with IHC by 9am on Mon(12/10/15)@ cachez event hall opp. Eco bank by wuse bustop Abj. infor-08140280189 Ref:LK3582"

Reference numbers are for job description in full Ads. It makes no sense quoting them in an sms when you're supposed to be economizing text characters. The scammers put it there in a foolish attempt to gain legitimacy not knowing that like Yahoo boys typing in ALL CAPS that it immediately exposes them.

Job seekers should google company names and addresses before deciding to spend money honouring interview invites. There is so much information already online (particularly on Nairaland) from seekers who've walked such paths previously.

And being we have damn too many scammers in Nigeria job seekers would be well advised to shine their eyes and do due diligence so they don't waste their time and money on futility.

Thank you so much for this update. I got this message today verbatim. I had a doubt on it at the first glance and in order to clear my doubts, i checked it on Nairaland. God bless you Nairalanders. I would have wasted my money, time and efforts on attending this fake interview.

Those scammed are obviously on nairaland also cos the unsolicited msgs I have been receiving now exclude Ref numbers.
