The Kano state government has declared this Wednesday, October 14, as public holiday to mark the new Islamic year.

lhaji Baba Dantiye, the director-general of media and communications to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, made an announcement about the holiday in a statement issued by Amade in Kano on Tuesday.

Governor Ganduje congratulated the people of the state and Muslims around the world on witnessing the new year.

He also appealed to Kano citizens to pray for peace and prosperity of the country during the holiday.

The governor reassured the people of the state government’s determination to work hard toward improving their living standards and pledged to continue to give priority attention to both formal and non formal education in the state.

This Wednesday, October 14, is the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calender and marks the new Islamic year 1437 after hijra.
