WHAT IS ANIMATION=
well, to my knowledge i can say animation is movement, so for u to make a text or image to move is call animation so the movement of of text and image or picture is call animation, so we have TEXT ANIMATION which you can use the one and common powerpoint application but more realiable and advance application i normally use ADOBE AFTER EFFECT which most of the movie industry use in makings effect in their movie, now lets come to the big one the IMAGE ANIMATION which to me you mean cartoon and today`s cartoon is the 3D ANIMATION which involve the movement of the image and also the applying of sounds, let take this 3D ANIMATION cartoon for e.g. SHREK,MADAGASKA,ICE AGE and many more, in this type of animation you need advance software for creating the image, what ever image you need, to create a human being, you need a software application like POSER,MAYA,3DMAX,HOUDINI AND SO ON, now creating the material like clothes, you also need all the software i mention earlier but i think the reliable i used is POSER because it has series of preset clothing made for you, to create environment i think there is this one called BRYCE but HOUDINI and 3D MAX can do it also. for more info call
